Candida Test

Candida antibody blood test Has anyone gotten the Candida Antibody Blood Test? I got one and the normal reference range is <1. My test results came out 2.83. I would assume this is high considering its almost 3x the high reference range but my doc said its normal to have yeast antibodies. My reply was why would you have me get this test done if your going to say it's normal to have elevated antibodies? His response was that the elevated antibodies could have been from a previous infection. From what I've read, your antibody levels will drop when the infection is gone. Anyone have any idea whats going on?
Thanks

Re: Candida antibody blood test
Hi Joe,

There are five different types
of antibody, called isotypes, associated with different stages of immunity...IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG and IgM

Antibodies associated with Immuno-globulin E (IgE),indicates an ongoing allergic reaction associated with hypersensitivity.

Antibodies associated with Immuno Globulin A are secreted by mucosal cells and indicate that intestinal mucosa is involved. IgM antibodies are produced as a primary response to infection, while IgG represents a secondary response and forms part of your long term immune 'memory'

By measuring antibodies formed by the different immuno-globulins it is possible to understand the exact status of an infection.

High IgE antibodies tells the Doctor you are hypersensitive to the organism or toxin. High IgM and low IgG reveals a very recent, ongoing infection. High IgM & IgG reveals an existing, ongoing infection, low IgM & high IgG reveals a past infection and low IgM and IgG reveals no infection.
The result you mentioned tells you that have or had a Candida infection but unless you have more information, it tells you little about the status of the infection.

Re: Candida antibody blood test
Steve,
I just looked at the test results and it was the IGA was 2.83. The IGG was negative as well as the IGM. So, would that mean it's candida in the gut?
THanks

Re: Candida antibody blood test
Hi Joe,
I've had that test done as well and it can be very difficult to track the candida problem from the blood.. I had high antibodies also but then I had a stool test done thru the smokey mountain labs and it's much more reliable for parasites, and yeast testing because it lives in the intestinal track...I would ask your dr. about doing a stool test, It sounds like you do have a yeast overgrowth though.. Good luck..
