Re: t3 Clinic
Marilyn,

Thanks for the info. I live in Seattle and my thyroid has been whacky for a long time. I'm on Armour's thyroid but still feel like my problem isn't solved.

My body is so achy that I find it difficult to conduct daily business. I'm convinced this has to do w/ my thyroid. And, while I like my MD, I need to find specialized help elsewhere. I simply did not know where to begin. Now, I'll begin w/ the clinic in Bellevue (not exactly Seattle but close).

Tue Jan 3, 2006 22:18I am up to 100 g of time release T3... so far I have noticed more muscle
strength, more stamina, better bladder emptying, less stiffness, better
sleep, more libido, better hand function, and more ability to move...

I am the one with MS, that has become convinced that most if not all of my
symptoms can be traced to the inability to convert T4 to T3. Like you, I'm
glad to see that thyroid hormone resistance is becoming more recognized, and
that the pituitary involvement obviates the whole TSH reliance. I am also
glad to see that this group is recognizing environmental factors as having a
detriment on the thyroid gland.

So far I've not gotten hyper symptoms. My heart beat has increased from
about 62 per minute to about 78 per minute. My blood pressure has also
risen from 90/60about 110/70. I was diagnosed with primary progressive MS,
a form they say only constitutes 15% of the MS population. The thing about
primary progressive MS is I am not supposed to be regaining any function
that I've lost. When I started on T3 it immediately vanquished the
incredible fatigue, the type of fatigue that was keeping me glued to the
couch. It also allowed me to tolerate sunshine, one of the weirder symptoms
that I had, I mean I would literally melt in sunshine, it did not have to be
hot, but just the light would incapacitate me. Last summer I was sun
tanning on the deck and got brown as an acorn for the first time in a
decade. Starting the T3 stopped the horrible urinary frequency/urgency that
has plagued me for years. I can now leave the house and count on a good
three or four hours before having to find the bathroom. I get very angry
sometimes knowing that many of my problems were thyroid related, and if I
had been treated sooner I would not be in this horrible condition. I can
only hope that I regain some of what I've lost. As far as I know T3
totally controls myelin production, at least that is what they have
determined with autistic children.

Anyway, my guess is that my optimal dose will be somewhere between 110 g
and 130 g. I sent the Naturopath this link because she was uncomfortable
with prescribing straight T3 in the doses that I was predicting I would
need. I have to give her credit for working with me, but as this thyroid
hormone resistance and environmental toxicity complexes becomes better
understood, hopefully more doctors will adequately treat us

Personally I concluded that Dr. Lowe's definition of a supraphysiological T3
dose, is actually just proper replacement. When I got up to about 80 g of
time release T3, my TSH disappeared. When the TSH is totally repressed, one
should be taking enough thyroid hormone to supply the day's need. I can't
believe how dumb the doctors have been concerning thyroid, but hopefully we
are seeing that the doctors are seeing some light.

Dr. Sharp: Currently, there are Fibromyalgia & Fatigue Centers (FFC) open
in Atlanta , Cleveland , Dallas , Denver , Ft. Worth , Houston , Los Angeles
and we will be opening centers in Amarillo , Salt Lake City , Detroit ,
Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in January 2005. FFC is planning to open 20
additional centers in 2005 to bring the total to over 30 centers in two
years, but these centers are about as far removed from being a "chain" as
you can get. When I hear the word "chain" I think of convenience stores like
7-11 or department stores like JC Penney or restaurants like McDonald's,
where every outlet has pretty much the same products that they sell to
millions of customers all over the country. While FFC is the first treatment
center in the country specializing in Fibromyalgia and fatigue based
conditions to open more than one center and operate with positive patient
outcomes, each center treats each patient in a unique way with
individualized care and treatment protocols.

Re: My post to the thyroid newsgroup
Very interesting. Thanks for posting that Marilyn. There is alot of literature about thyroid, fibro and the relationship to auto immune diseases. I had never heard that about thyroid and ms before thou. I always learn something new on this forum.
