Bedwetting

To Tove re bedwetting
Tove, Thank you for the insights and your knowledge on bedwetting and dairy. Do you think Candida could be part of it, too, or purely dairy? She has tried to go off dairy, and it is very difficult to be at school. All snacks, class parties, rewards, etc. seem to revolve around food with dairy somehow. Maybe I need to send some healthy snacks for her... Thanks, again, for the info!

Re: To Tove re bedwetting
My daughter also doesnt tolerate dairy, yet she has other symptoms. I just send food with her sometimes.
If your daughters favorite foods contain millk, then most likely she gets a "hihg" from them I lived on milk powder for a year as a child, i still remember the thrill it gave me to eat it. She will have abstinence when she gives it up. Explain to her over and over how important it is. You must also tell teacher and friends parents, if she goes home to someone. Here there are so many muslims and hindus, we get used to adopt the food to the child who is visiting.
Lactose is most likely not a problem, but casein, a milk protein. In the beginning the only thing that helps is to avoid it completely, then after a few months you can test out how much she tolerates.
Yes: It is difficult! Always! But as it gets more known, at least we don't get all the !just eat a bit!

If candida is a problem in addition, I wouldn't know. I think she then would have a wider range of symptoms, but maybe it is a problem too?

bedwetting
Lauren, Thank you so much for sharing that. Wow! One difference between my daughter and your sister is that her bedwetting started about age 5. She was fine before that, which was so puzzling. I'm going to let her read that. We do struggle having a dairy-free home. We have lots of children, and dairy is everywhere in everything. Her favorite foods (sour cream, yogurt and cheese) are difficult for her to give up. Did you say Lactaid is okay? I don't know much about it. I didn't know if she was lactose-intolerant or allergic to dairy. If it is just a lactose problem, can she have a lactaid pill and be fine?

Also, thank you to those who gave pointers about high-fructose syrup and red dye. There is so much I still have to learn!! Wow! I really appreciate the help!
Jen :-)

jen s bedwetting.....
i couldnt post below yours but wanted to tell you about my sister....im 26 now shes 24 but she wet the bed forever! she used to make me sleep with her and id wake up in the middle of the night all wet!

She wet the bed almost every night until 9 or 10 and then on occasion until she was 12 or 13! my parent had plastic mattress covers towels sheets! She was definately allergic to dairy and still is infact -- she also has add, which i think diet is a HUGE factor in controlling..

I know she felt SO badly about it - her self esteem was so low and she acted out because of it....it makes me feel bad just thinking about it.... but we grew up in the dairy sweet tooth house..( a future diabetic father and all of us with sugar intolerance me with asthma and CFS among other things, but both of us skinny as rails - oh and deep black circles) ..my parents brought her to many doctors psychologists etc and eventually it stopped -- i wish someone has just told our family to have both her on a super restrictive diet (NO DAIRY NO SUGAR) i think the bedwetting along with other problems would have ended a lot earlier... for both of us!

i think getting her to like the diet and eating healthy will change her life -- no dairy limited sugar!! hope shes ok....it does get better though...you can tell her about my sister if you want and let her know that it will end one day soon and doesnt define her as long as shes willing to make a few diet changes! it sounds like she has a super supportive mom anyway so im sure you guys will be fine!

ps ive tried goats milk as im also lactose intolerant ive been fine with it in moderation...but my sister used to have cereal with juice in it before we found lactaid! gross! and so sugary!

good luck!

Re: jen s bedwetting.....
High fructose corn syrup and red dye is another culprit that contributes to bed wetting.

Red dye
I am wondering if my daughter reacts to red dye by getting really badtempered for several days. Could of course be something else. So difficult to find out these things!

Re: Red dye
Red dye is (obviously) nasty stuff. I bed she does react. Have you heard of the Feingold diet for kids?

Re: Red dye
Yes, i heard of Feingold. My daughter is thankfully mostly well functioning, it is only now and hten she becomes difficult, which is why I see the difference, I guess!
Mostly she doesn't eat any red dye, or any dye at all, but sometimes she visits people and I have no control over what she eats.

Re: Red dye
fyi-those dyes are illegal in Australia

bedwetting
Hi, I have a 9-yr-old daughter who began wetting the bed four years ago, with prior problems. She has been to see pediatric urologists at Vanderbilt twice with complete workups, and the only thing that they concluded was there was nothing physically wrong with her, she was doing it for attention.
After doing research on my own, I've learned that food allergies can sometimes cause . We are thinking she may be allergic to dairy now. However, in my research, I'm wondering if she may just have systemic yeast. Unfortunately, she was on several antibiotics over a 2-year period when she was younger for chronic bladder infections, so now I'm wondering if they could be related.

Does anyone know if Candida can cause ?

Thanks!

Re: bedwetting
Spacy, forgetful and bedwetting are typical dairy symptoms! I know of several children with exactly those symptoms who became fine after stopping aboslutely all dairy. Take her off all dairy including cheese and whey and so on. Initially she might get abstinences and really crave millk, so you have to be strong for maybe two weeks. I she does that, you know you are on the right track.
In Norway you can test with this test www.neurozym.com press brittish flag -but in the US I don't know.
Remember she might lie and get hold of dairyproducts at school, then abstinence will start again.
To replace nutrition in milk take calcium with vit D, maybe + B complex and extra protein. Hope you manage!

Re: bedwetting
I bet it is related. I have never wet the bed, but have taken years (off and on) of antibiotics for bladder infections and I know it has taken a toll on my urinary tract in some way. She is still so young, I imagine that is how it is effecting her. Do you know about D mannose? It's great for chronic bladder infections (also to prevent). Do you think she is too young to learn how to do keagals? They are great to tone up the bladder and prevent urine loss.

Re: bedwetting
Thanks, Sheryl. I will try and explain Kegels to her. Would you recommend I help her as though she has systemic candida, with the acidophilus, probiotics, etc?

Re: bedwetting
Yes for sure if she has taken antibiotics. How does she feel other than the bed wetting? That has to be tough on her. 9 is a big girl and still such a little kid at the same time.

Re: bedwetting
She feels okay for the most part, but is very spacey and forgetful. I am beginning to wonder if her brain fog isn't from the Candida. Her stomach hurts a lot, too. It bothers her a lot about the bedwetting, and seeing her emotional pain is what has put me on this 4-year quest to try and find a solution. It isn't easy being in school and living the Candida diet, but maybe if she realizes the good that can come from it, it will be more incentive for her. Thank you so much for your help!
