Sleep

REM Sleep How is everyone sleeping? What are you taking to sleep? I've had a rough month mainly due to Planter Fasiitis and leg cramps (allergic to all calcium supplements). I need seratonian (sp?) and iron. I cannot take 5THP and Iron as both increase the candida. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Re: REM Sleep
Country Life's Active Coenzyme B6 (taken in the morning) helped my daughter get to sleep at night. Curiously, the Coenzyme B6 didn't seem to kick in until about two weeks of use. She was taking 150 mg each morning.

Taurine (taken with meals) also helped her get to sleep and wake refreshed. Theoretically, magnesium and salt should help with a good night's sleep.

Serotonin is needed to initiate sleep. However, too much serotonin interferes with REM sleep. So, I'd be very wary of using 5-HTP. There are some people that are helped by 5-HTP, but that doesn't mean everyone will benefit. Theoretically, people could get worse sleep if they got too much 5-HTP.

Glycine doesn't have a direct effect on the duration of REM sleep, but glycine can be helpful for a better night's sleep. Here is a quote from the March 2005 LEF magazine about glycine and sleep.

www.lef.org/magazine/mag2005/mar2005_itn_02.htm

"Subjects who took three grams of glycine within an hour of bedtime reportedly fell asleepand exhibited brainwave patterns associated with deep, non-REM sleepsooner than control subjects who did not supplement. Subjects reported feeling refreshed on waking, with no indication that glycine produced morning hangover, a foggy feeling often associated with the use of prescription sleep aids."

Re: REM Sleep
Are you allergic to all forms of calcium? have you tried taking magnesium glycinate? I take a half of a tablet with organic yogurt(for the calcium) before going to bed. Also, If I take an epsom salt soak this will really help me sleep at nite. I just cant do it everynite because it can make a person feel weak. I have never used this but my sister in law takes a product that is a homopathic called calms fortee that she claims helps her at nite.

Re: REM Sleep
Sis you try to take foot bath in epsom salt for leg cramps?
In my bad periods, if I eat too much sweets or carbohydrates, I wake after sleeping about four hours and can't sleep again, despite being dead tired. It takes all day to rcover, and nothing gets done and I get grumpy with my daughter.
I take melatonin. When I excercise and eat right the problem is small. I tried valerian and some other medicines, but it didn't work very well for me, just made me even more tired and frustrated ut unable to sleep, or made me sleep all next day (a bit difficult to get my daughter to school)

Re: REM Sleep
I toss and turn from 4 am on during periods of die-off. I haven't found anything to help.

Re: REM Sleep
Thanks for the advise of using epsom salts for the leg cramps. I find melatonin helps me alot to get to sleep. I just take a tiny flake as Tietelbaum says Fibros only need a small amount but I don't tolerate it well. I had been using Tietelbaums Formula but and slept better and probably should use two capsules but know I am allergic to some of the ingredients.

I really feel for you having a daughter who is at home and having this. My daughter is grown but now I realize I had many of the symptoms when she was at home.

I try to walk everyday as it is about the only exercise I can tolerate now as have some severe structural problems but keep working on it.

Re: REM Sleep
When I was really ill it was terrible to have to get up and lift my daughter and so on. Thankfully she is now seven and can do many thigns by herself, + I am so much better!

I think you should look for another brand of melatonin, have you tried Natures own? Melatonin is a substance made in the body, and I thought nobody would react strongly to it. Are you sure it is the melatonin and not some additive?
