Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
No i dont think its necessary, there is somthing in carrots n so on that can make your skin on ur hands and feet appear yellow and also alot of green vege's have this ingredient also. I my self eat pretty much only Fruit and Vegetables and so on avoid all the processed junk out there and my hands and feet appear yellow and i believe there is no problem with me but do not take what i said as a final answer if you want to get this checked out go ahead and do so but i my self think there is no problem what so ever:)

Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
it's one of the classic
signs of hypothyrodism

Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
I had exactly the same thing as you and even more. My hair fell out, my palms and botton part of my feet were yellow, my liver enzymes were highly elevated...
Guess what...none of the doctors I went to knew what it was.
I went to a Gastro Doc. and he didn't really have the right answers either.
What finally happened was that I was working at a Psych. Hospital and one of the nurse's asked me what I've been eating that had a lot of Vit. A in it because she said she noticed my hands were yellow.
Turned out I was eating lots of sweet potatoes and that was the culprit. Anything orange in color that is eaten too much of can cause this. I lost so much hair that I was in a panic.
When I stopped using the sweet pot. everything got better.
I still eat them but I try moderation.

Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
Ironic that drs. couldn't identify that Vit. A was causing the problem.
Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
The answer in this case seems to be to simply stop eating the carrots. Some poeple cannot process carotene, which shows up in yellow hands, feet, maybe eyes, and general skin. Also, look out for carotene in vitamins and supps, as it is quite common. If you turn back to normal color after dropping the carrots, and supps, no need for concern. However, if you are detoxing, make sure that you are not yellow due to a sluggy liver, and tha the carrot consumption is not just a coincidence. Have liver enzymes tested. If the yellow is purely from the carrots, your enzymes should be fine, but "may" be elevated if it is liver trouble, However, a sluggy liver will not always show up as elevated enzymes so the technique is imperfect. Finally, my doc said that mixed carotenes are safer than beta carotene alone. Hope that helps.

Re: yELLOW hANDS AND FEET
Could you please tell me what mixed carotenes are?
Thank you.

Mixed Carotenes
It is basically the same principle as vitamin E. Most vitamin E is available in supps as alpha tocopherol. However, there are other tocopherols that are usually not included when the supplement is made, such as beta and gamma tocopherols, that are beneficial. Kind of the same philosophy as taking the germ and bran out of wheat when flour is made. Taking only "part" of the whole leads to an inferior product. The better supps will try to add in the other tocopherols. Same is true for the carotenes. The others are alpha-careotene, lutein, lycopene, zeaxanthin, and c ryptoxanthin. It is not easy to find a multi with mixed carotenes (or carotinoids), but they are out there.

Re: Mixed Carotenes
Hi Sans,

It's true about the vitamin E you mention. In nature gamme tocoperol is most abundant, from what I rememeber, and vitamin E also contains alfa, beta, gamma, and delta tocotrionols.

I don't think it's important to include many carotenes such as lutein e.g., although it would be nice, but they are very expensive to add in and if ppl want to get those they can obtain them from other supps.
