Burning Scalp
I'm new to the forum and am at my wits end--and desperate. I have Candida overgrowth which has produced an intense/itching in my scalp that is causing hair loss. I've had my hormones balanced and am taking medicine for low thyroid. This is freaking me out, big time. As a woman, I am so depressed over losing my hair which is at my forehead and creeping backwards. I recently started taking ThreeLac, Biotin, but I don't know what else to do. I've been to 6 dermatologists and 1 neurologist just to make sure there was no tumor, etc. I have had cortisone injections that did not work. I'm so afraid the hair loss will be permanent. Any ideas? I'm losing a lot of sleep over this and it is wreaking my self-esteem.
Stop the cortisone. It will only make things worse. This is not permanat as long as the hair follicles are not destroyed and even that can be helped. Buy some good tea tree oil and use a cotton ball saturated with this .Apply on as much of the scalp area as you can. Leave on overnite(it smells terrible) Then alternative between selsun blue with aloe and nizerol shampoos. This will help a great deal. Be sure to be prepared to use a good conditioner as this will dry out your hair. You have to stick with this regime a long time. Leave the nizerol on for about 5 minutes. It ususlly continues to work after you wash it out. The biotin and three lac are good things to take but I also think you need to add some type of systemic antifungal like garlic,or pau de arco(temporarily) If this doesnt work, some people have to take a prescription antifungal like diflucan. My son kept getting ringworm on his scalp and eventually had to use diflucan. He uses the tee tree as maintenance. If you google hair loss, you will come up with some good information. hair loss is beoming a common thing and thee are lots of new products out on the market. I would try treating fungus first.
OH, fatty acids are also helpful.
I posted something to you down below but I was thinking that if your scalp is burning, these treatments may be to harsh right at first. IF you have a good health food store, they might be able to advise you to do something like putting aloe or jojoba oil on scalp first to help heal the burning. Even thou these shampoos are harsh and may initally burn, they will help. I dont think you should apply tea tree oil on scalp if you have open sores.
A dermatologist can cometimes be helpful with this ailment.
Liz, That's the problem--there are no sores, no redness, no bumps, nothing! Only intense itching/burning and hair loss. I'm going crazy! I know it's Candida overgrowth related, because when I eat/drink anything with yeast it burns more. Thanks for caring enough to post. I appreciate it.
