Toenail Fungus
I started out with one toenail (years ago) with fungus. I took Lamisil for a while but my liver enzymes became to elevated (or something with the liver) and dr. took me off of it.now, it has spread on both feet to nearly EVERY single toenail.
I am taking Nystatin daily, and I have just started putting tea tree oil on my toenails.
Anyone know how to get rid of this. It is soooo disguisting. I'm embarrassed for my husband to see my feet!
I have fingernail fungus and I have been told it is a candida infection(yeast overgrowth) I heard nystatin works until you stop taking it then the fungus comes back. I heard that soaking in vinegar twice a day as well as putting oil of oregano once a day on the affected areas. Then taking a oil of oregano tablet. It is a natural anti fungal remedy. You must also avoid sugar while trying to kill it since the fungus feeds on sugar.

A couple of drops of DISTILLED vinegar, applied at the base of the toenail 2X daily (morning and night) for 6 months should result in death of the fungus and growth of new, healthy nail. The acid of the vinegar penetrates into the new nail being grown each day and keeps it fungus-free. You have to be diligent in it or the new part of the nail might not be resistant to the fungus still there. Takes a few months for a complete new nail to be grown and to push out the old fungused nail, with the distilled vinegar being used a little beyond what looks like a completely healthy nail. "Maintenance" treatments might be a good idea, esp. if battling candida in the body.
I've also heard of far-infrared heat helping to kill fungus. Go to a pet store and buy a ceramic "reptile lamp" and lamp holder and aim it at your feet (at about 15" or so) for about 20 minutes each day.
Hi Spriggy.
I used the vicks vapor rub everyday and yes it does help. I would file flat on top of the nail and then apply vicks rub. This would make it acceptable to go out in public in sandals. But the problem was that it would always grow back in. You have to really keep up with it. But what is really clearing it up for me now is the diet and the antifungals because my problem is internal. I had the same problem with the one toenail and then it just spread to all of the nails. My big toe which was the worst is now starting to grow in clearer than it ever has. I can now see the half moon again. The other toes are still bad but I figure I just have to be patient.
There is a doctor column in our newspaper and many people have written that Vicks applied twice daily will cure fungus in a short time. My husband is using it now as he has been plagued by one particular finger which has actual black growth under it. Seems to be working! Certainly would be a cheap easy and safe cure! The doctors couldn't cure this for him so we are faced with cure yourself!
If you have internal fungal problems, any topical treatment for toe fungus I believe will be in vain. I've dealt with this for quite a while, and the times when my atheletes foot cleared was when I internally controlled my Candida problem. Unfortunately I haven't yet got the master plan for dealing with my candida overgrowth, but I'm learning new stategies (I think) as time goes by.
I got rid of mine with exactly what you are using (tea tree oil). I put it on twice daily and let it dry. It will take around 6 months so don't quit.

if you can get clear iodine and put in on your toes, it will help. i am not sure they sell it in the US ut look online if you can't find it at the drug store.
