Mercury and Candida
Hi all,Havent posted in several years. For those who remember me, I was diagnosed with MS five years ago, candida playing a starring role, and was told it was reversible. Fast forward to 2003 and intuitively I knew I was clear of it. Earlier this year my doc formally gave me the all clear, no MS, which was fantastic news.
Well we all know how candida supposedly has a beneficial role in the gut but no-one seems to know what it is! One German medic found that it has a protective effect on bacterial infection and went on to observe it actually ridding the gut of mercury! He went on to hypothesise that candida is mobilised to chelate mercury and anyone with persistent candida problems had excessive levels of mercury in their system!
Like smoking, candidas easy to give up hey, Ive done it a hundred times! Or so the joke goes. Im going through a process of removing my dental amalgams and each time I suffer from candida as well as neurological problems. So Im not bothering combatting it until all my mercurys out.
Thought you might benefit from this revelation.
Will let you all know how I go.
Keep well.
Totally amazing. I'm so glad the MS diagnosis is gone. I've heard of people where their MS would stay in remission so long as they were on the anti-Candida diet. However, I assume you did a lot more than just diet to pull this miracle off. Have you been taking things to absorb the mercury in the gut? Or what do you think is the most significant step you took? Again, congratulations, and thank you for posting.
Chicken and egg.
In my experience Candida overgrowth occurs when Mercury or any other xenobiotic damages the immune system and beneficial gut flora.
Candida overgrowth causes massive changes to the gut millieu and is usually accompanied by the presence of other gram negative, anaerobic bacteria, which disturb digestion. Potentially, these pathogenic bacteria may contribute to the overall toxic picture by breaking down the conjugates of toxic substances formed by the liver's phase II detoxification, thereby allowing the toxin to be reabsorbed.
Bottom line, in my experience Candida accompanies any xenobiotic that damages the immune system and gut flora. Candida is therefore a symptom and not the cause of illness, although it does generate the majority of the illness's symptoms. Again in my experience, treating Candida without first finding and treating the underlying cause is futile
Agree with much of what Steve says, although I wouldn't use the phrase Chicken and egg as mercury is very much the cause of candida, not the other way around.
Just to correct candida isn't mobilized to chelate mercury. Candida is an opportunistic pathogen - neither friend nor (if we are being totally honest) foe. It is there as a oppportunistic scavenger to mop up any food your body doesn't digest.
If you are mercury poisoned you won't produce the necessary HCl and digestive enzymes to digest your food. No amount of pill popping can match the body's own natural digestive powers. The result is candida/dysbiosis.
On top of maldigestion, mercury causes immune issues and flora damage which don't help the candida situation either.
As you've figured out, and as Steve says treating the symptom whilst not addressing the underlying cause is futile.
Polly, yes I did a lot more than the anti-candida diet. I wrote a story about the experience which you can read at http://home.iprimus.com.au//ms_story.doc. Im taking spirulina, selenium and vitamin C to absorb the mercury. As to most significant step, my thoughts are changing all the time! Im in the process of removing all my amalgams and I now think thats the biggest step.
As Steve puts it, mercury fuels the candida and Im now finding the candida is fuelling my asthma which comes and goes. So get to the root of the problem and I can fix booth candida and my asthma once and for all.
