Candida & Lyme
I would like you to briefly read my story with candida, and you may give me some suggestion:I tried to go under cure with one doctor, he prescribed Sporanox for one week (2 caps a day) and then extended the prescription for the whole month (totally 4 weeks). He also prescribed a diet with no sugars and all the other foods that facilitate the candida overgrowth.
After this month of cure (1st of November), I felt better. The problem is that this staying well lasted only 5 weeks, and at the beginning of December I started feeling bad again, and this time involving also my stomach (before it only affected my gut/colon and my eyes). Now I also have problems digesting food.
I think that it could be a recidive overgrowth of candida albicans, but I cannot be certain of it because I cannot find any hospital that carries out an intradermic test, whereas the blood tests I had was negative, but I know they can be false negative many times. Any other tests that are more accurate?
I would like to restart the cure, but when I tried to restart with Sporanox and Vitamin C (Redoxon 1000 mg./1 a day), I felt sick and among many side effects I vomited. I don't know at this point wether to relate this episode to this medicine or it was just a coincidence. I was thinking of changing the anti-fungals and try Diflucan which seems to be very effective but I don't know the doses.
I appreciate a lot your help and suggestions, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
i have bad experience with Diflucan. It helped me in the short run, but then everythign came back with a vengeance.
You need to build strength so your body can fight candida at the same time as killing candida. One month is not a lot. I have been on a diet for maybe 4 years. If I had known about fermented vegetables twenty years ago, my life would have been different. There is no quick fix. When you get it really bad it is for a reason: something wrong in your body. Antifungals are a must but not enough.
I take olive leaf extrract, but maybe it is not the best for you. I only take it rarely these days, if I indulge in raisins or too much fruit.
Usually candida overgrowth comes because there is some weakness in your body: do you have undisclosed allergies, bloodsugar problems, an infection?
Dear Tove,
I don't have any allergies reported after several tests, I don't have any sugar related problems in my blood. One doctor said that probably my defenses were lowered for stress and deep inner shocks that I may have gone through. This probably counted for 85% of the overgrowth problem. he doctor also said that it is impossible to cure candida without taking care of what caused it, but in my case the only way would be psycotherapy, if those are the real causes.
You had bad experience with Diflucan, so now you use only natural helps? Some say it is not enough to kill candida for good or for an important period, do you agree? What other anti-fungals would you suggest?
As I told you, I tried Nystatin at the very beginning when I had disturbes only in my gut, and then adopted Sporanox which at that time worked. The only problem tat did not solve was an ocular inflammation/infection which never went away and that could only be candida related.
Have you had nice long periods without candida related problems after following a right cure? Any recidives?
Thanks a lot for your kind helps.

Lots of ocular stuff can e lyme disease related. I used to have a lot of lurry vision due to lyme.
I was never beaten by a blacklegged tick, and even if I could not have realized that, I don't have any kind of external sign of either a lyme related rash or candida related skin rashes.
I read in some posts that blurred vision at times can be a symptom of a candida overgrowth. Isn't it?
Also, in case I had Lyme disease, wouldn't I have the values of eritrosedimentation rate higher than normal to show an infection?
Thanks a lot for your post, I aprreciate.
Hey Max
this certainly can e yeast ut it can also e lyme. Very hard to tell although if you treat candida aggressively and it is not gone in 6 months to 1 year, there is something else going on and it is usually metals or lyme.
As per the tick. I never got the rash and dont' rememer getting itten. I was proaly itten y a nymph tick (the size of a pin head) when I was iking/camping for 6 weeks ecause I got very sick after that.
I also tested negative for lyme and never had elevated C-reactive Protein and other infectious markers till after I treated myself for lyme. The tests are very unreliale and asically it is a clinical diagnosis.
It is worth keeping lyme in th eack of your mind if you are not getting etter with the candida treatment.
Ciao B!
Well, the thing is that I reacted very positively when I treated the disease as being Candida. The only problem is that the olistic doctor where I went had a really soft and not aggressive approach, and he first wanted me to go on with anti-fungals for just a week, then said one month but no more than that.
I felt really well for the whole month, for a month after that month, and then I started again with the symptoms and this time involving the stomach as well and not only the gut like it used to be before.
That's the only reason for I say it could possibly be Candida, but my only fear is now that using again the same anti-fungal won't work, but I haven't tried yet.
Next Monday I will see the doctor.
Thanks a lot for your attention and support, you're cool! ;-)
P.S. Is a complete healing from these diseases possible or not? What have you experiences and learned so far?
max
hi. so hate to reak the news ut candida and lyme go together like read and utter. also some antifungals work against lyme and i felt *fa* on prescription antifungals ut it never did the trick.
can lyme e cured is a tough question. i have een attling it for 6 years and aout 6-7 months ago i started a treatment that i have confidence in for the first time. it is simple: vitamin c and salt and it kicks my utt during the herxes ut then i feel pretty well. est is it does not give me ad side effects. here is the yahoo group on c-salt:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/lymestrategies/
i lead a pretty normal life just limited in so far as i am in more pain than usual, have more fog, and need to take it more easy. i hope that after 1-2 yeaars on c-salt with some metal chelation, i will e cured or in remission.
other folks on this oard doing c-salt are dpd, rue, and aleta. i elieve grace may start and jeannie also has lyme though she does not use c-salt.
i just finished a 10 day die-off/herx period that was nasty ut now am in the clear till next month.
i am sorry this is short ut read the yahoo newsgroup and especially the links and read posts y dpd and me from the last 6 months if you are more interested in lyme and treatments. we also of course follow the anti-candida diet and are dealing with fungus.
Did you test for both IgE, IgG and hyperpeptides in urine?
Are you not deficient in any vitamins?
Since there are many strains of candida and the infection takes many different forms, it is imposible for me to say "use this" or "use that". You have to find out yourself.
I have been very very ill, so I nearly gave away my daughter. I am born with food intolerances that I didn't heed. Generally, when I have been well, I have taken too many chances and eaten too sweet food too quickly. I also don't tolerate starch, propably I have an enzyme deficiency. You can propably not comparer yourself to me, since I have so many other health problems in addition to candida (or as cause).
i get well by eating a very boring diet with meat and greens and lots of fermented foods (the best int he diet), no starch, no nuts, little fruit. Excercise. Strong vitamins. Epsom salt baths. Probiotics. I no longer take thyroxin or cortef.
Hope you find out of your problems.
Dear Tove,
all the exams carried out were negative, I am just waiting for the stool that are being analysed in these days.
But, one question to you that are expert in this field: is there a secure test that can be used? Have you heard of an intradermic test where they analyse your reaction when injected a small quantity of candidina?
So far I only know that I am not sure that I have candida, I am sure I have very bad symptoms which can be candida related and that in the only month I went through treatment against it I felt much better. After terminating it, I feel even worse now than before.
Can I also ask you what your symptoms were? Are some medicins to cure stomach related problems bad for an eventual candida overgrowth (I felt so bad with my stomach that the doctor prescribed one to me)?
What about some medicines like anti anxiety, do you have any knowledge on their interaction while fighting against candida?
Thanks a lot for your support!
Sorry I am no oracle, and don't know the answer to most of your problems. If your doctor believes in candida and tried to help you, he might well succeed.
I don't think there are any tests that are foolproof. Also most people hav some candida, it just doesn't bother them. It is the overgrowth or the alelrgic reaction that will cause a problem. Some antidepressants are antifungal.
Sorry Tove, I did not mean to bother you too much. By the way, if you know an antidepressant which is also antifungal please let me know.
Thanks for your continuous help.
You dont bother me at all! I am very flattered to be seen as some oracle, but I am just an ordinary sick person who became nearly well, and my answers might not be your answers. It is very important that you check everything you do with someone else, and go for your gut feeling.
Antidepressants are not very strong antifungals, I think, and propably have more side effects than antifungals.
My symptoms are mostly fatigue, muscle pain, foggy brain - but sometimes rash, terrible smell, weak knees, thin hair etc.
