Lyme & Candida
Dear all,I just wanted to ask a little, maybe silly, question: is the candida overgrowth in patients suffering for Lyme disease caused by the excessive but necessary abx treatments?
Thanks to everybody!
That's a good question... and the answer is generally no, although the lyme abx treatments can cause fungal flares if one isn't on antifungals and an adequate diet.
Note that I haven't been on abx for lyme yet.. just a 10 day dose post wisdom tooth surgery. Note also that I recognized over 6 years ago that I had a terrible fungus problem.
You'll find that lyme patients have NUMEROUS infections, including viral infections such as HHV-6 and EBV, gut parasite infections such as giardia, tape worms, and liver flukes, any number of other tick-borne infections, gut bacterial infections such as klebsiella, e coli, staph, strep, fungus infections such as aspergillosis and candida, etc.
You don't need to on abx to get any of these infections when you have lyme. However, abx in lyme patients can open one up to these issues further, and that's a real problem... a true conundrum of sorts when it comes to treatment.
