Kefir As Probiotic?

Kefir As Probiotic? Hi guys,
Has anyone bought kefir drink for a probiotic?? Is it ok for us with candida because it's fermented and has yeast and alcohol in it....
I'm wondering if the probiotics counteract the yeast or alcohol.
I was going to buy some but wanted to check with you guys first to make sure..
Thanks,
kristin

Re: Kefir???
I answer you again to clear up the misunderstanding about "fermentign". We call it "fermentign" also when lactobacollus bacteria multiply - and they are good for us. What is not good for us, is when the yeast candida ferments, also some other type of lactic acid bacteria, for some people (like Crohns are supposed to stay away from some bacteria)

"Ferment" and "yeast" are used about bacteria and fungi that are both good and bad for us. Kefir grains "ferment"

Yes, kefir contains alcohol. If you drink about 20 litres or so, you might get a bit drunk - but most likely burst first.

Hope that answers your questions better than my first answer!

Re: Kefir???
Kristin,

I've tried coconut water twice, once about 4 years ago, and again about 2 years ago. Both times within a few weeks I developed clear sentivities, I presume to the yeasts. I have a BAD history of mold/fungus allergies and candida overgrowth.

However, in the interum both times I had very strong reactions that I believe to be detox reaction. I feel that if one can handle coconut water kefir it could be an amazing supplement.

You might want to make sure you have the fungal overgrowth contained first though.

Also
I'd be very careful of cow milk kefir, particularly store bought. First make sure it's organic. Even so, us candida overgrowth folks are generally terribly allergic to pasteurized cow milk, and the kefir's in question here are not very thoroughly cultured. Thus, allergies to the milk are highly likely in my opinion, on top of the potential for kefir yeast allergies.

Coconut Water kefir is insanely easy to make, so you should definitely give that a shot first imho.

Re: Also
I have to agree with you based on my own personal experience dpd. Even after clearing my candida, i remain sensitive to diary. not sure I would call it an allergy though. I think sensitivity to dairy could be an issue for many people who become chronically ill.

in any event, I thought I would be ok if i stuck to raw goat kefir. but eventually, i started getting rashes. sure that if i kept taking, my health would have continued to decline. no interest in that happening again, so I gave it up.
Re: Kefir???
Kristin, I just started drinking some a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be o.k. Where did you hear it had yeast and alcohol in it?

Re: Kefir???
kefir is great - if you tolerate milk.
if you feel you can't live without milk, then maybe exactly milk is your problem?
i get terrible abstinence when I stop with milk, think about milk products only for several weeks -

Else: we have millions of bacteria inside, kefir bacteria is just one type. We need them all!

Re: Kefir???
I've eaten alot of fermented dairy and think it's fine if you like it. I had hoped that yogurt or kefir would act probiotically but never found it did. Sometimes I tried fortifying it with extra probios, but that didn't seem to work too well either. Nonetheless, I think it can be a part of a healthy candida diet so long as you don't overdo it (like I did). I'm sure you have visited Dom's Kefir website (I think that's her name). She's a bit fanatical and at times silly about her devotion to kefir, but viewing her website is informative and entertaining at the least, regarding kefir. Good luck. .
