Die Off
I'm on serveral things for candida - diflucan, probiotics and anti-fungals. And I'm doing the diet.
I'm also battling a urinary tract infection for which I'm taking herbal supplements. I had take anti-biotics for the UTI a few weeks ago.
Anyhow, I'm experiencing a lot of vaginal itching. I've been using over the counter yeast treatments to get relief from the symptoms, but they aren't abating. Is there something else I could use that would be better or safer? Is the increased itching possibly from die-off? Anyway to tell?
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks.
Some people experience this when first starting the program. I dont know the reason but it has been theorized that it is related to die off. Modern herbalist has a web site that sell a product with boric acid. IT also has other helpful products for candida.
Hi Linda,
Are you on the candida diet? If not on the diet, it probably isn't die-off. The only way that candida will die is if you starve it as well as using antifungals. I have used diflucan before with my other doctors(I curse at them now)....it did nothing for me!! After it, I thought the itching was just as bad if not worse. At that time though I was not on any diet. Monistats do not help me either!!! They burn me now because I think I used them too much. Try this: My new doctor suggested it and I think it has been helping soothe the area. Douche with water. Add 1 drop of aloe juice and 1 drop of theives in the douche. Do this about twice a week. Bathe in epsom salts 3 times a week. I also have been rotating natural antifungals and I am on a candida diet. I got about 3 or more weeks of die-off (I think). This was recently. Then the other day I started feeling a little better. I still have little itchy spells ...but we will see. Try those things, it may help. I am still learning through all of this because I am going through the same thing. But I figure any tip may help!
OK......I can't read. You are doing the diet!!! LOL. Sorry about that.
If it gets better after a time, it's no doubt a die off reaction- but if it continues on and on, then the candida is not budging. Are you doing enemas or colonics at all? I found colonics helpful at first ( they saved my life-- I was soooo constipated ), but then after so many, they began to backfire on me-- I think because they were further depleting my good flora. I use enemas quite often though, and find them very helpful. Nothing is immediate ( for me, anyhow-lol ) but keeping the colon clean ( or at least as clean as can be ) seems to help. No vaginal methods ever work for me- probably because this is comiing from the gut, not vagina.
Thanks -- I could try enemas. I've been avoiding them.
How long does die off generally last? Days? Weeks?
Well, sorry to tell you this, but die off could go on for years. I've read some quick success stories on a a few of these forums, but I really have to think they did not have it very bad. I think it all depends on how long and severe your illness-- I've been sick with candida and leaky gut for about 12 years now and have been housebound at times. So you can see why it would take me years to get my health back :-( No quick fixes there. I hope the Diflucan helps you. I tried that one myself years ago, but the lady kept taking me off of it and every time the yeast just rebounded. Then after a while it didn't do anything anymore. Probably all that course of action did was further stress my poor liver. I'm doing a lot better the past month, which I feel sure is due to a new probiotic I'm using called Custom Probiotics. High count probiotics are about the only thing that really help me ( that and my wonderful Livatone Plus! ( --liver supporting herbs ) ;-)
