Licorice
I found some 100% pure licorice drops made in Italy for Phtyo-Plus, so I researched and candida and came up with completely opposite information. One site claims licorice is hard on the adrenals and one site says it helps the adrenals. Does anyone know for sure? These drops are really good, and are sugar free for a change.
Licorice root saved my life when
I had a mental breakdown, as well
as a physical breakdown. Physical was because of the lyme, the long term stress, made the lyme come out.
It is for the adrenals, it contains a natural cortisone. Without taking it 4 years ago, I doubt I would be writing this.
Even up at Emergency the MD knew about the value of licorice root.
I took it for 2 months, every day.
1/2 tsp 2 times a day, but I do NOT have high blood pressure, and I think there are also other reasons
some cannot take it, for myself
I REALLY mean, it saved my life.
It saved my because it saved my adrenals. I used the bulk dry powder, very cheap.
I have heard, some cannot take it,
I can, I am lucky. I also ate potassium rich foods while on it,
I dont use it all the time, only once in a while for a period of time. I am using it again for 1 month.
Jeannie, that's great to hear. I'm going to keep trying it and let you know what happens. Take care.
Hi Brett,
I've read that licorice can elevate blood pressure, but that the deglycerrhyzinated form (known as DGL) does not. I'm not sure if this is any indication that licorice might be bad for adrenals, but my guess is that if you're weak in that dept, licorice might be too taxing.
Madge, yes, that's what I read too. I don't know if the drops I have are DGL, the box doesn't say.
It also has estrogen properties which can be a problem for some long term. I have wondered if the dgl form is as effective as the pure form. They use it mainly for stomach formulas. And, I dont know if the DGL form is a problem with estrogen.
Hi Liz, how are you doing? What would estrogen do to a guy?
Hey Brett, how are you doing? I am about the same little changes here and there. I go forward two steps and back two more ha ha. I think you would have to take alot of this to have a problem with estrogen but that would also depend on how your liver was functioning.I know that women who have clogged livers have more problems with estrogen dominance or can have because the liver isnt properly filtering out things. A symptom I have read about with males, is the presence of breasts.
Me again, Brett. Have a look at this page:

I really like & trust this site. It helped me tremendously in managing my fibromyalgia a few years ago, and has since been a big help in other areas. Looks like licorice is actually helpful in keeping the adrenal hormones available, and it's useful in treating conditions like chronic fatigue & fibro, so it must not be harmful to adrenals after all. The only caution is with high blood pressure, as previously mentioned.
Hope this helps & doesn't confuse matters further.
Madge, that's one of the sites I frequent often also. Thanks.
