What Flour?
Everything on the internet is too muddled on this matter of candida and flour...is rice flour ok? corn flour? what other flour's work? quinoa? im so confused!
ao what kind of fruit have people found to be a problem? or what have you found to be ok?
i have a hard time wanting to give up bananas and strawberries - i am pretty much allergic to all pitted fruits anyway.
Is,
I think it depends upon where you are in the healing process. In the beginning zero starches are best. Later (after about two weeks) you'll need to do some testing with buckwheat flour, quinoa and amaranth. Much later when you are further along is when you can try corn or wheat flour. You might try sprouted grains first.
Experiment with blueberries and raspberries. If you eat bananas, (good for potassium) eat them before they get ripe and have too much sugar. Grannysmith apples are allowed, too.
It's a lot of trial and error and often what works for one does not work for another.
Best to you,
I have been fine with brown rice flour and also with fine oatmeal. I did not tolerate spelt though and I would not attempt wheat flour. I didn't have any for the first 2 months and then I started experimenting.
Fruit I have been fine with grapefruits but other than the odd one off I have not attempted much other fruit really!
I know how you feel too! I have been ill, but not as bad as you, since I was a 18 (I'm 28 now) and doctors have only made me worse. Mine is mostly aware but I am basically self treating myself now!
Good luck - you should get lots of help from here!
thankyou pace
ive been trying to figure this all out on my own...im 26 and ive been sick my entire life. doctors make me worse and i havent truly found a solid holistic person to help with nutrition.
i was really sick as a child and took antibiotics all the time - i have asthma, allergies to everything-i have ADD-i was considered depressed at 18---i mean of course i was -an 18 yr old feeling and living like an 80 yr old! -then finally 3 yrs ago diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome(at least some validation)-i even managed to make it through graduate school - which however put a lot of stress on my body and mind----but im ok i guess.
its just so frusting to feel like crap all of the time - and be allergic to everything - and have people think your just a complaining nut.
finally a friend looked at me a few months ago (my big black circles after a full night of sleep) and said you have candida! my boyfriend always thought it was weird that i would wake up in the middle of a dead sleep and say 'cake... get me sugar" and then shove cake into my mouth and pass back out.
i read a lot and have every symptom of candida so now ive decided i have to take matters into my own hands---just dont know what to do to wipe that candida out....???
im worried that if i just take probiotic, garlic, grapeseed extract, and change my diet that i wont really kill the candida but just silence it a bit...
but im not sure if something like a candida cleanse can be used while doing all of the other helpful things i mentioned above?
AAAAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!
sorry im just venting now...i dont have anyone to talk to who understands whats going on! people think im crazy or psychotic! its hard to explain to people why i cant get out of bed or why im not lazy but just sick all the time!!!!!!! and sneezing and wheezy and pale and losing hair and....well the list goes on.
anyway sorry for going on and on and thanks pace for the flour suggestions
lauren
I think most of us here feel the same way you do. I know I do. I figured out nearly three years ago that candida was my problem, and it's just now that I've finally learned what I can and can't eat. It takes lots of trial and error, but IMO fruit and grains are out for a long, long time, maybe forever. p.s. cultured vegetables have been nothing short of a miracle for me.
whats imo fruit?
i cant figure it out? im sure its obvious....im just slow and brain frozen on that one....
are all grains really necessary to cut out? even the good whole grains?
brown rice flour? spelt?
also how do you tell what makes you feel bad? ive been on this diet for 1 1/2 weeks ive messed up a bit but only minor ---but im so used to feeling crappy and i feel crappy now actually maybe more tired and headachy than normal but kind of clear i guess...i mean i psychologically feel healthier because im watching and writing down everything i eat but...better or worse im not really sure?
I think he means, "In my opinion, fruit and grains. . . "
IMO = In My Opinion.
ok im a dumbass...
didnt put that together im so not up with the internet abbreviations or acronyms..
thanks!
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I had hypothyroidism like symptoms probably as the result of an auto-immune reaction to the candida overgrowth. My thyroid panel was normal but, I had low body temperature, tinnitis, horrible cronic fatigue, brain fog, tingling in my extemities, chills even in a warm room, and several other symptoms. But the low body temperature was key. Because it measurable, and I could show the results to others. Check the symptoms for hypothyroidism and see what you think.
Are you taking thyroid meds? I too had been having hypo sypmptoms for about 3 years and finally talked my doc into letting me try meds even though normal labs and I feel so much better. Been on them since May and still trying to find my correct dosage but still much much better than before meds.
Yes, I am on Synthoid(T4). I believe that when the candida is beaten the hypothyroid symptoms will go away. I am much healthier than I was, and I am much less dependent on Synthoid than I was. I can now miss an several doses without any problems. I am not 100% recovered, but I feel that I have the candida under control, and the end is in sight. I will be glad to describe what I feel worked best for me. I am sure that you know there is no instant cure. You keep attacking the candida, and it's envionment, and slowly, slowly, slowly beat and starve it back into submission.

Yes, I also think after beating the candida the thyroid issue will resolve on its own. I've been battling this monster for 18 months, have done alot of things but would love to hear what you think has helped you. I am definitely better than I was a year ago but I'm not well so still have a ways to go. I'm going to have my 10 mercury fillings replaced at the end of Oct. and do some mercury detoxing so I'm hoping that will be what finally gives me the edge to beat this crap.
What I "think" has helped me is right. This is not an exact science, I might have just gotten lucky.
For me, diet has been everything. In fact, I feel certain that I could have beaten candida with a strict low/no carb diet alone. I found the stricter (no or very low carbs) the better. I'm not sure what substance may or may not kill candida. But I am sure of this, everything living thing has to eat. Candia eats sugar and carbs. Fish, poultry, all animal protein is carb free. So dinner, for example, a steak, green beans, and a salad.
I was eating quick cook oatmeal for breakfast, it's supposed to be OK (low glycemic load). But I did much better when I switched to eggs, pure protein, no carbs. For me, at least, it seems the lower the carbs, the better.
I was eating a good bit of kefir and yougart. Loaded with lactobacteria, right? Well, it seemed the the lactose (milk sugar) outweighed the benefit of the bateria. So, I did much better on small portions of both products.
Magnesium was the single most helpful suppliment I took. A candida overgrowth is said to suck magnesium out of the body. After four or days on magnesium my depression and paranoia abated.
Anyway, I'm still not back 100%. However, I am far from the almost bed ridden, chronically tired, brain fogged person that I was eight months ago. I started a strict low carb diet in June. I'm starting to feel real improvement now. I feel with this hypothyroid thing, we may have a lot in common. Good luck. I can honestly say that I KNOW what your'e going through.
Thanks for the info, we are about on the same track. Unfortunately, I did end up in the bed for almost 4 months starting in Feb. 04. The candida, which I didn't know I had at the time, knew something was very very wrong with my health, it wiped out my immune system and gave me a full blown case of Epstein-Barr (Mono).
I'm much better than I was this time last year and very eager to get my fillings replaced and see where that takes me. This has been one heck of a ride that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
