Oat Porridge

Oat porridge Hi all

I wondered what you thought about oat porridge. I seem to be very limited in what I can eat, and anything with gluten or dairy in, usually results in more stress, diarrhea and gut pain. However, I've found that I seem to be able to eat oats without much of a problem. Recently, I tried Shredded Wheat and live yoghurt, but I'm having runs again with some gut pain.

I'm very limited with meat too, but soya chunks seem OK. I'm trying to eat more than just soya chunks, salad and some chickpeas.

Do you think oats are OK on the diet?

Re: Oat porridge
Oats from Europe are gluten free. The Celiac regulations are much different there than in the USA. The oats in Europe are processed in gluten free plants. Here they can be processed anywhere. The oats in the USA are compromised and not considered gluten free. I buy oats from Ireland and my hubby and son have no trouble at all. With candida they are very rich in fiber but pure carbs and will turn to sugar. They turn slower than processed foods but they still should be limited. I cook whole oats in the crock pot over night. They are much tastier than even the rolled old fashioned oats. Shredded Wheat is pure wheat. Wheat is has the most gluten of any grain that contains gluten.

Re: Oat porridge
Hi Jon - stay away from the Shredded Wheat. Its a pre-packaged food - not healthy and wheat is a no no on a candida diet. Wheat causes most candida sufferers intolerance symptoms. However I dont have a problem with oats myself and I do eat them once per week - maybe I am feeding my yeast but my diet is soooo restricted sometimes its a case of eat something or starve. Thats not a healthy option either. If you get marked symptoms - stay away from the culprit food.

Re: Oat porridge
Hi Jon! I wouldn't eat oats, too much "sugar" in it. Before I was on the candida diet, I often had oat porridge for breakfast, but I realised I didn't feel good from it. Oats are carbs, which turns to sugar in your intestines, which immediately feed the yeast !

Re: Oat porridge
I was told by my doctor long ago that a bowl of oats was like eating a bowl of ice cream. But, I still have some before bed sometimes to curb the cravings and they are good for you.

Re: Oat porridge
Well I get the worst sugar peak after eating an oatmeal, it actually kinda feels like after I've eaten a chocolate bar or something like it... (ooohhhhh, why did I mention chocolate)

Re: Oat porridge
Eden, yes, you mentioned chocolate!

Re: Oat porridge
I seem to be okay with oats and I find they keep me regular when I have them too which is always a good thing for me!!

Re: Oat porridge
My nutritionist said they're OK in moderation, along with millet and spelt.

Re: Oat porridge
Spelt is wheat. It is labeled sometimes as ancient wheat, but it is still wheat.
