Mold
Hi,
I just accidentally ate some very moldy organic sour cream. It expired Oct. 4. There's a big silver dollar size greenish/grayish mold spot on the side of the container facing away from me. I swallowed about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. Do you think it would help to take activated charcoal? What are some other remedies? I wonder what kind of mold this is, if it's penicillin or pathogenic....does anyone know?
Still here by God's grace!
Like I keep delicately mentioning to my wife...Its a refrigerator, not an archive!
October 4th...I'm surprised even the mold would eat it.
However with all your enzymes and stomach acids its extremely unlikely that any harm will come of it. Also its almost inevitable that some of our food contains mold....so our immune systems are designed to take care of it.
October the 4th....wow. More of a relic than a leftover
Steve,
Sounds like you've heard about, "science experiment in the fridge."
The thing is, I had two identical containers--both full. Unfortunately the one that was good until Dec. 12 was accidentally thrown away. :-(
Speaking of experiments, there was someone on the board who who took some fresh shrimp and put them in a bowl of yogurt on the countertop at room temperature to see how long they'd keep from spoiling. I was quite surprised when it was going a month-long experiment and the shrimp hadn't spoiled yet.
Well, I'm not sick yet, so I'll probably be O.K.
I bet you will be ok, but I know I could talk myself into being sick from it, lol. Id take the charcoal and forget about it.
Grace, don't worry. I've eaten so much moldy food over the past few years and it's never done much to me. All food has mold on it, some more than others.
Thanks Brett,
It's just that mold really bothers me. Maybe it will be like eating aged cheese or something--that bothers my stomach but not for too long24-48 hours. I'm hoping I didnt' get too much.
Do an ascorbic acid flush if you have this on hand.
Not long ago I ate some yogurt that had spoiled a bit and had a somewhat pleasant blue cheese flavor. I wouldn't make a habit of it - but it didn't make me ill.
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Penny, what exactly is an ascorbic flush? How's it done?
Grace
Place 1,000 milligrams (mg) of ascorbic acid in a cup of water or juice. To make this drink, use ascorbic acid in the form of either esterified vitamin C, such as Ester-C, or a buffered product, such as calcium ascorbate. Take every half hour, keeping track of how much has been taken, until diarrhea results. Count the number of teaspoons needed to produce diarrhea. Subtract 1 from this amount, and take the resulting ascorbic acid drink every four hours for one to two days. During therapy, make sure the stool retains a tapioca-like consistency. If it again becomes watery, decrease dosage as necessary. I was given this therapy to try after I got sick from eating moldy nuts. I didn't realize they were moldy until I was almost at the bottom of the bag. I was fine that day, but over the next few days my brain fog, cravings, a fatigue intensified. I contacted YPEACE, for a consult and was given this to try. It helped with that particular incident, but also with my allergies overall. You can repeat it once a month as long as you take a vitamin/mineral supplement to keep replenished.
Wow! Penny, thanks for taking the time to write all of that out for me. I am printing it out right now. I'm glad to know there is something that we can do about it.
