Coffee: An Addict
I love coffee. I haven't been drinking it for two weeks. When should I re-introduce it? When I am fully recovered or when I only have mild symptoms. I really want a cup and decaf won't be enough!!!!!!
I feel your pain! I love coffee, but man, it is soooooo bad for my candida issues. The problem wtih caffeine is that it can cause your liver to dump toxins (phase 1 liver detox). While this is not a bad thing if your system is working properly, many if not most long-term candida patients end up with liver function issues, in particular with the phase 2 pathway. If too many toxins are dumped in phase 1, if phase 2 is deficient, it will hamper the dumped toxins from being bound and eliminated by the body. This results in toxins being recirculated instead of eliminated, makes you feel fatigued and achy, and can in fact hamper candida recovery as candida proliferates in a toxic environment - and you end up goog around in candida-killing circles.
I would definitely wait until you feel 100% before playing around with this. I have had to re-learn this lesson many times. And, you don't feel it at first. The effect builds up gradually. So, while you may feel great after that first cup of joe, by the end of the week you may be having symptoms that you can't explain, and will wrongly assume it is something you ate. If you decide to go ahead anyway, just keep these things in mind so you can spot trouble before these things get out of hand.
