Bad Congestion
I had a cold over a week ago and am unfortunately now suffering from severe sinus congestion. It is very painful all over my face and is also making me very tired and keeping me awake a lot of the night.
Any suggestions of what I can try to help clear this up as I am feeling really poorly with it. :(
Thanks
april
Hi April, so sorry to hear you're feeling bad. In addition to saline irrigation (a must for sinus problems), try using hot, wet packs on your upper face 4x day, for 15 minutes at a time. Keep re-wetting the cloth with the hottest water you can stand, & keep it on your face for the full amount of time. This can be a very effective way of promoting drainage.
Also, you can get children's Sudafed syrup & take the tiniest dose & see if you can get some relief that way. It's very important to get your sinuses to open up so that stuff can drain. You can also try Robitussin for chest congestion..this is not for coughs, only congestion, & only contains guaifenesin (along with the dye, :() The guai will thin out the mucus & help it exit the sinuses. Again, since it's in syrup form, you can experiment with dosage & don't have to overdo it to get some significant relief.
Also give bromelain a try, on an empty stomach, between meals. This works as an anti-inflammatory, and if you take it along with turmeric, you will enhance the effects of both. Do this 3x day. Wobenzym N is a great systemic enzyme, also taken on an empty stomach, & it will likewise reduce inflammation.
Finally, increase your fluid intake a lot right now, to help thin out mucus. Extra sleep will help your body fight infection. Extra vit. C is useful, and elderberry tincture is a potent antiviral which is helpful in dealing with sinus infections.
Hope this helps,
There is a great company...I can't think of the name..I used to use the mold/grass allergy drops they made. They have a congestion one as well..You can get it at Whole Foods (or other health food stores). It's a light blue box...I will post if I remember the name.
April, here is some info I used when I recently had a sinus infection, it is very effective if you will do it right, use an ear syringe and flush the sinuses out with salt water. I also put a few drops of h2o2 in mine.
