Vanilla Seltzer
Polar Seltzer has a vanilla flavor. Its just seltzer and natural vanilla flavor. It really tastes like a cream soda to me. Is there any reason (besides carbonation not being very healthy) that I shouldn't drink this from time to time?
Those little buggers are always trying to get us to eat, aren't they? It is as if they see the food and beverage commercials and scheme and plan how to get us to make the purchase. It is like having a 3 year old living within us that wants that sugary cereal--MOMMIE MOMMIE MOMMIE PLEAZEEEE---just this once, it won't hurt me, I promise to brush my teeth, I promise that I won't have it every day..........HA!
YEa, but the difference is that at least three year olds are cute.
Hi Penny, very funny, but very true which makes it "not so funny"!
Sheryl, Don't do it!! I tried all those seltzers and they fed the yeast. I called the company and asked them how they were flavored and they couldn't give me a straight answer. I payed dearly for drinking those last year.
@#%#%&$!!!!!
But thanks for letting me know.
actually, most of these have 0 cars and calories and no artifically sweetners. my understanding is they are not great for you ecause they can e acidic, ut if there are no sugars or artificial sweetners, it does not seem it could directly feed the yeast.
Biella, trust me, they did feed the yeast, atleast in my body. I asked my girlfriend to try some Polar seltzer lemon/lime and she said, "it tastes like Sprite" They are definately sweetened, even though the label says 0 carbs and 0 sugars, there is leeway in the labeling system. I set up a small candy distributing business for my girlfriend and I had to research product labeling for her package. I was shocked to find out how lenient the labels are. When I was drinking the "naturally flavored" tonic waters, my yeast exploded.
That is such a good point. My friend used to work at a bread bakery and it was amazing what they could let slide on the label...I should know better than to think something that tasted that much like soda was ok.
There is a distinction. There are flvored sparkling waters that are sweetened, but there are also plenty that are not. The sweetened ones will say no carbs/sugar since the sweetening agent is artificial. Go with seltzer that says "lime essence" or "orange essence" or whatever. It is not sweet and certainly has never fed my candida.
Hey Sans, just goes to show how we're all different. I can't tolerate much compared to others it seems. I've tried the ones with natural flavors and they really cause me problems. When I called Polar to ask them how they were flavored, they said that they use the extract from the rinds which I think would cause problems for some with candida. I've never been able to eat lemons or limes on this diet, unfortunately.
Oh, yeah, that is a bummer. You are right - if you can't eat lemons or limes that would prevent you from being ok with this seltzer. I can't imagine there is much in there - you must be particuallry sensitive. I am so sorry!
I had the very same reaction with all seltzers as Brett. It not only fed the yeast, but gave me the same exact symptoms as when I was tested for brewer's yeast and baker's yeast. I suspected a yeast extract was used in the "natural flavoring." It was so bad one day when I tried 1/3 rd of a can that I don't even know how I made it through the rest of the afternoon at work.
I found an alternative, though. I took plain seltzer or club soda. Put a flavored tea bag in it like Strawberry and a little stevia. This worked well for me with little to no side effects. Keep in mind that I didn't go crazy with it, though.
I can't accept the notion that carbonated unsweetened water (seltzer) fed your yeast. Maybe it made you feel crummy from something having to do with the carbonation - but I don't see how carbonated water feeds yeast (it doesn't).
Niles, the plain seltzer does not feed the yeast, the flavored kind can and does in my experience.
I took another swig of the vanilla flaoved seltzer. It is a bit sweet. They are putting something in it to sweeten. Vanilla is bitter on its own.
I had a hard time eating squash last night because it tasted too sweet! I'm starting to not like sweets instead of crave them?? Is that the diflucan?
Brett, the teeny amount of sugar in the soda effecting you just proves to me that sugar really is a potent drug. It should be listed w/all the other dangerous white crystalized refined drugs! Of course, the stuff in flavored seltzer is probably not white table sugar, but still...I'm on a sugar rant!
AND..even the deep roots lacto cabbage tasted sweet to me last night. I just want to eat olives and pickles all day.
Niles,
I've had the same experience as Brett with flavored seltzers. Something in them feeds the yeast even though the labels say 0 sugars.

Pace and Sans, doesn't this suck? Imagine how others must look at us, like were crazy talking about milligrams of sugar. I can't even use sweet herbal teas, but I can use peppermint oil which I mix with club soda sometimes. It's not too bad and peppermint oil kills candida, if not taken too much.
Mmmmm, mint! Yum. I like that too. One company makes a plain (not fizzy) mint water that I love. It is so refreshing.
Hi Brett,
Have you ever noticed how many teas contain roasted carob or chicory root? I cannot tolerate that at all. It's probably a tiny amount, but it makes me sick, sick, sick. I may as well eat a candy bar--at least then I would get more pleasure out of it.
Pace, at least you've figured out what makes you sick. I've tried many herbal teas, and the ones that taste remotely sweet cause me problems. It's hard to believe that the contents of a little tea bag can do it, but it does. Chicory root is sweet right? I had trouble with licorice root, that's for sure. Big mistake.
