Diflucan Help
Im looking for advice on Diflucan. Here's my story. 13 years ago I got diagnosed with candida overgrowth. I would go one the diet and take Diflucan whenever I started feeling really bad. In about a week or so I'd feel like a new man. The last couple of times I took diflucan I got really horrible die off (terrible anxiety, shakeyness, chills, brain fog, palpitations, etc). So this time I decided to break the pills up as to gradually build up to the recommended dose (that was 6 months ago and I stopped after a month due to die off). Since then I have been on naturals in rotation (Capryllic acid, SF-722, Goldenseal, Candex). I've also started taking Primal Defense in high doses of 10-15 tabs daily (which at first also caused the same die off symptoms). I have been making progress over the last 7 months although very slow. Since the progress was so slow I decided to try the Diflucan again. I started with a 200mg loading dose and then 100mg daily. The die-off (I'm assuming it's die off) is as bad as when I started this 6 monts ago. Does it sound like the yeast got resistant to Diflucan or do I just have to suffer through it? I did get Bioset tested and they said it was Candida Tropicalis. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Joe:
Do you go off the diet when you start feeling better, then when you feel ill again go back to the diet and diflucan???? I know most literature says that you really have to watch your diet once you've had candida.
Thats my worst problem. Im super strict for about 3-4 months then I cheat and it's all down hill from there. I know exactly why I got sick this last time. Once I have one piece of chocolate or cake I can't stop eating it. It's like a vicious addiction. This time I've stayed true to the diet for almost 8 months straight. I only cheated once by eating 2 donuts and paid for it for almost a week. I hate this damn fungus.
Yep, it certainly can be a bitch. Hey, you are doing extremely well at 8 months. Have you considered doing other anti-fungals either instead of or in addition to the diflucan? Maybe the diflucan just isn't for you. I know some people have to try different ones before they find one that works well for them. I am working with a Naturopathic Doctor, and she said sometimes you have to "fool" the candida by trying or switching remedies every now and then.
Thanks CB. My doc gave me a script for Sporanox but I've been a little scared to try it. The absolute worst part of this whole thing (for me at least) are the mental symptoms. I'll be feeling on top of the world and then the anxiuos or depressed feelings creep in which sometimes turns into a panic attack. I got a CDSA 2.0 test a couple of months back which showed no growth of any probiotics. I also got a candida antibody blood test which showed almost 3x over the reference range. I just pray all of us can get over this for good.
Hi Joe - yes, my worst symptoms are the mental ones as well. Depression, brain fog, hard to think/concentrate, etc. I sometimes think they will never leave!
Anyway, my Naturopathic Dr. started me out working on my adrenal glands. She said they were overtaxed and didn't even tell me about the candida until we had addressed that problem. She says she just wants to work on one thing at a time and not overwhelm me. Maybe there is something else going on. Have you talked to a Naturopathic Dr. Maybe look at the idea of parasitics, thyroid, something else going on in addition to the candida. Sorry, no other suggestions to provide.
