Colonoscopy

Anyone survive a Colonoscopy?
My Dr. says anyone over 50 should have one and I definitely agree but think I am still in too weak a state to have one. I'm concerned about the laxative and not having food in my body for 24 hours. The outpatient clinic said I could have as many shakes as I want up until three hours before the procedure. I'm also concerned about the IV with sugar as over 12 grams and I almost pass out. I am going to a new Dr. the last three years and he says I am not diabetic but I know I am as have been tested many ways before this. I will try to get my old records sent to him. Should I have a diabetic IV? I probably will wait until spring now as don't want to catch anything. Also, my adrenals are so weak I don't think I could go without the supplements that are holding me upright. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I had this done and barely got through it. I had intense pain and was so sick afterwards three nurses and techs checked on me at least half a dozen times to make sure I was O.K. Think I scared them, actually. A different protocol should probably be used for those who have candida. Maybe Steve or Liz or someone else on the forum could recommend something.

You really need to weigh the risks involved. As bad as my experience was, if I was at high risk for colon cancer, I'd probably suffer through it again.

Do you have bowel cancer in the family - this procedure tests mainly for this. There are other newer less invasive procedures about now, so I have resisted havong a colonsocopy, for all the concerns that you mention. The insertion of tubes just inflames me for weeks and the laxative cause severe IBS for weks too.
I have a very sympathetic consultant who says he can't help me but will support and answer any questions I have or do any procedures if I feel up to it.

Last November i had an upper endoscopy, i was far too frightened to have a sedative in case i had a bad reaction (as i am intolerant to just about EVERYTHING!! it was unpleasant but was over quickly. The biopsies came back normal, but i was continuing to loose weight, so the Dr said i should have a colonoscopy, with my appointment letter they sent me two sachets of laxatives with instructions to take one the night before appt and one the morning of appt. I couldnt possibly have taken them, so i phoned the clinic and told them my problem, they told me to go an hour early for appt so i could have two enemas. I didnt have a sedative for the colonoscopy either, but Dr only checked first two thirds of colon. It wasnt nice and only just bearable, but i could leave hospital straight away...a BIG bonus.
