Coconut Oil

Coconut oil
Anyone tried coconut oil?
If so, did it help with your Candida problems?
How much did you use?
Did it cause any die-off?

Someone answered...
I do very well with young coconuts and coconut oil. Coconut oil also really holds me as far has hunger. If I have a long morning and can't stop to eat for a while, I add a little extra coconut oil and I'm not hungry for hours. There is a great book by Bruce Fife called...oh great I cant think of the name. Something about the miracle of coconut oil.

coconut oil really helps my dry skin if I take it internally but it makes my heart race and I only take it about once a week.

>Anyone tried coconut oil?

yes

>If so, did it help with your Candida problems?

yes - but not in the way you think. It is great metabolic support.

>How much did you use?

I take 3-4 tablespoons a day.

>Did it cause any die-off?

Only at first. Coconut oil is only going to be of limited effectiveness as an antifungal because it is absorbed early on in the GI tract.

Someone answered...
I guess this is why my heart races. It must be speeding up my metabolism . either that or it is die off.

Hi,

What do you mean by "metabolic support"?

Someone answered...
thyroid (mainly), adrenals (to a lesser extent), energy.

Is fresh coconut and juice allowed when on the candida diet? I am curious. I know that coconut oil is effective, but I am living in an Asian country and unable to get the oil but can buy fresh coconuts as an alternative. Apparently coconuts are fruit so I wondered about the sugar content etc.
Thanks in advance

I have been drinking coconut water as a rehydrant and have been fine. I read that it's allowed on the diet. It's high in electrolytes, but low in carbs (according to the nutritional info on package). I haven't tried a fresh coconut but would love to! I've also used coconut flakes in my "cookies" (made with almond butter, brown rice, cinnamon and stevia in a food processor, then rolled into balls).

There has been some controversy on here about the sugar content of both coconut water and coconut milk. But, I have found that both have a pretty good amount of sugar. Trust your tastebuds. Coconut is sweet. I had a really bad time when I was drinking the milk, it caused quite a flare-up.

I am jealous! I used to make cookies just like that but they fed the yeast. If I could eat nut butters this diet wouldn't be nearly so bad.

I've been reading a lot of the posts lately and you and I seem to have problems with a lot of similar foods. You can handle the cultured veggies, though, and I can't at all. I can't breathe when I eat them...anything fermented at all.

I did coconut milk and cocnut oil for months with no problem and then all of a sudden, wham, I started getting candida symptoms really bad. I stopped the coconut products and the symptoms stopped. Tried again with the same results. I'm now thinking that maybe I set myself up to be allergic to it because of a leaky gut. Have you ever done anything besides the cultured veggies toward healing your gut? I'm having a hard time finding a product that doesn't set me off. Glutamine (even the Perque one with PAK), which is supposed to be the first line of defense, gave me a terrible rash on my arms. I'm now trying Aloe Vera, at least for the last couple of days. With some of the things you write, it just reminds me that you've got some leaky gut going on. But if you're as sensitive as I am, it's hard to even find things that work to heal without causing candida or allergic problems!?

Hi, my candida had gotten to stage five before I knew what was wrong. When I first started the diet three years ago, it was like a miracle how quickly I improved, but I made a big mistake adding back foods too quickly. This led IMO to a pretty hardy strain surviving in my system which can live on very little. So, then I tried every supplement and anti-fungal out there, with serious negative results.

Before I discovered the cultured vegetables I was really down because my diet was severely limited. I wish you were able to eat them because they have helped me so much.

I know I had leaky gut, but it seems much better now. I think it just healed over time from being strict on the diet. NO supplements ever really helped me, in fact they backfired 99% of the time, diet is the most important thing for me.

In regards to your comment below:I also read where cocounut oil can raise blood pressure which wouldnt necessarily be a good thing for many of us. It does seem to help dry skin when taken internally.

I've been on a new diet and whole different program which is producing grand results. Part of my program is eating up to 6 tablespoons a day of it. I know this sounds crazyany, but it has really helped. In the beginning I had alot of die-off and some stomach aches and nausea from it. So I had to go slow and gradual. Well, guess what? I've been able to go completely off my blood pressure medicine. My b/p is actually running low for the first time in years. Also my Blood Sugar has normalized and I think it has helped my thyroid. I'm now going on my second gallon as I use it externally and internally. This program is wonderful, with lots of good fats, meats, eggs, and lots of veggies. I'm going into it slowly and not even into the antifungals or probiotics yet. That will come after the diet has helped and killed off yeast.

Thanks for that update on coconut oil Val. I like hearing opinions on this product esp since I started using it again(in small doses). I kind of vary the fish, flax and now coconut oil It sounds as if you are having some success with this product. Glad that you are doing better.

You are definately going too fast and strong on it. I had the same thing happen to me when I first started. I'm on a candida support group and am following a specific food diet. Going into it slowly is best, before adding the supps. It is advised to do the diet for three months before starting antifungals. The coconut oil is part of the plan. You build up to about 6 tablespoons slowly, or you will have die-off. That is what you are experiencing--die-off. Start with 1/2 a teaspoon a day for a few days and then increase it very slowly. If you get nausea or vomiting be sure to eat it with food as you won't notice the die-off. It is a wonderful thing and people often mistake the sick feeling for a bad reaction or allergy. It is normal, just go slow. I'm only up to about 3 tablespoons a day and I've been on the diet for 2 1/2 months now and have never felt better. It is working and believe me, I've tried everything for 3-4 years. It is true, as I never believed before that a good diet will kill off candida. It is very strict though and not easy. But I'm motivated to stick with it, as if I cheat then I get a flare-up. I buy my coconut oil by the gallon and am on my second gallon. I use it externally and internally.

Hi All:
it's me again. After reading so many promsing things abt coconut, I became very enthusiastic once again. Finally something as natural as coconut could heal candida? So I asked my husband to get a raw coconut.Day 1: I ate a lot of raw coconut. Needless to say I had diarrhea next day.(very watery stool)
Day 2: I bought Extra Virgin Garden of Life coconut oil from health food store. Next day, I had some lose stools. ( not watery). Day 3: I stir fried some cauliflower with coconut oil. I got bad abdminal cramps. And then vomited twice. I thougth oil might b bad. Day 4: I consumed some cocont milk. Again cramps and diarrhea the following day. ( no vomiting thank god!). So I am gonna hold off on coconut for now. All my enthusiasm of treating myself with coconut is shattered. I must mention, that I used to consume small amts of coconut in past and never had diarrhea. Coconut Oil for sure, I am consuming for the first time in life. Has anyone else experienced this. I do not have any food allergies. Why is my body not able to take coconut. The symptoms of consuming coconut were similar to Food Poisioning. Please help. How can I start taking coconut again. I dont want to vomit again :(

I didn't find any advantage or disadvantage to coconut oil, not to mention the price has doubled because of all the publicity.

Like Madge did in the above post, you should learn how to correctly use coconut products in your meal preparation. Coconut is widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine and you might look to their foods to see how coconut is used. Thai Kithchen products (pretty widely available) would be a good place to start. Also eat at some Thai restaurants to get a good idea of how foods with coconut should taste.

The web site that was shared on coconut oil produced claims of this very same thing from other people. I have used it sparingly(about a quarter a teaspoon twice weekly). I seem to be okay with only this amount. IF I exceed the dosage, my heart speeds up considerably and I have difficulty with this anyway. After doing some research on this, I learned that it can speed up the metabolism which I assume accounts for the weight loss that some people relate. The amounts that people report taking are in the tablespoons which would naturally cause more side effects. IT could be as Madge suggested that the fat is to much for the gallbladder or liver to handle. I am not really convinced that it is such a great antifungal but then I never had much luck with caprylic acid.
