Severe Gerd
Basically what I did was a complete change from the western diet; I took The Metabolic Typing test and found I was a Mixed type.I was a heavy user of grain foods;so I stopped all grains, such as breads, cakes, pies, cookies, pastas, etc.I eat 70 to 90% raw fruits and vegetables now.I cut down on amounts of meat.Cut out all Deli-meats,bacon etc.I put in more cold water fish, baked chicken thighs in my diet.I make my own soups[quit most canned foods] from scratch.Stop most foods that have sugar in them;went to Xylitol as a healthful substitute for sugar. No candies of any kind except some very dark Chocolate,ie 78 to 88 % cocoa.
Some red wine with a meal, cut back on coffee,1 or 2 cups/day.Stay away from starbucks et al coffees. If other sweetening is wanted, get a good brand of Honey, preferably from a Bee farmer. Most store Honey is adulterated and highly processed making it a poor food.I bring in Manuka honey from New Zealand;costly, yes, but,if you want good health you won't get it by eating junk.A side benefit of this diet is,a good loss of over-weight.I am down to 156 Lbs. now from 183 lbs. This loss of weight took 4 inches off my middle, which helped stop my GERD.After the Betaine HCL treatment as I went on with this change, my need for HCL supplementing declined.I also supplement with a large variety of Vitamins/minerals,etc. as I believe our mass produced foods today are sorely deficient in all vital nutrients.
In addition, stop using the regular salt you buy at the store and get either Sea salt or Himalayan salt.Regular salt is processed at High temperatures with other adulterants added.Salt = is Sodium Chloride and the Chloride is what is needed by your stomach to make Hydrochloric Acid. This Sodium Chloride is in the available form your body can use.A Dr.Duffy of Dallas Texas with over thirty years of practice said he very rarely saw a patient with too much acid, but invariably too little.
I hope this helps,be well.
Thanks alot. I actually have stopped coffee for over a month now..and it wasnt easy as I was a chronic coffee drinker. I switched to herbel tea, and very occasionally black or green tea. I've been taking lots of supplements for a long time, and have always had a decent diet (although holidays blow it out of the water). I'm now on only whole grains, soy products, lots of fresh veggies and some fruit. Last night I felt really rundown and achy, and been trying to cut down majorly on antacids so im hoping this works out.
I also heard about using more salt in your diet to cure gerd..I may do that, I do use seasalt now, so ill use that on my vegetables instead.
