Blood Pressure
I hope someone can tell me what is going on. I reluctantly take blood pressure meds on a regular basis. I have been tested positive for h-pylori and have been trying to decide what to take and hoping to avoid taking the antibiotics. I rec'd supplements today and had planned to try one at a time to be sure of side effects. I started out by taking 250mg of lactoferrin. Now my blood pressure is going up much higher than it normally is while taking the meds. The lotrel that I take does keep it down to a reasonable level. I did also go ahead and take some zinc carnosine because I have taken it before and have had no side effects. All the research I have done shows lactoferrin to be favorable for blood pressure and that the 250mg is an ok amount. I keep waiting for my blood pressure to come down but it just keeps getting higher. It just checked 179/122. It usually doesn't go that high when I am late taking the bp meds. I don't know what to do. I wonder if I could take a second bp med. It has been almost 16 hours and they are supposed to be 24 hours apart. Does anyone have a clue to this interaction. I had no idea that the blood pressure factor could be a side effect. It may be herx-heimer but I can't afford this one. Any advise appreciated.
I dont know why lactoferron would raise the blood pressure. Is there an 800 number on the bottle you could call to ask or a health food store near you that could advise you in this matter? You are wise to start supplements one at a time. I dont have any information on the lactoferrin and blood pressure . I know that starting large doses of vitamin E will cause a raise in blood pressure or can cause it. They advise starting slowly. Also, there is a milk peptide that is being used to lower blood pressure. Magnesium is another natural thing you can try. Have you tried stopping the lactofererin for a while, then testing your bp and starting it up again to see how that affects your blood pressure? If you are fighing an infection, sometimes this will raise blood pressure. It has with me anyway.
Thank you for responding to my questions. I feel like the increase in blood pressure was caused, at least in part, by die-off from the lactoferrin. I have such a messed up gastrointestinal tract that anything I take can mess me up before it helps me. Also, like Tom said if he takes too much it makes him feel like he's been run over by a truck. I guess it could be a combination of the die-off and effects of the supplement. It WAS
I have tried to get enough magnesium in me, but if I take very much it causes diarrhea.
You asked if I had tried stopping the lactoferrin and starting back. I just took one pill on wednesday. I stopped immediately when my bp went up. I wouldn't dare take any more of that amount. I may try colostrum after a while which has only 14 1/2 mg per pill(of lactoferrin that is).
You said that fighting an infection would raise bp. I guess this h-pylori would cause that. I have read that blood pressure and h-pylori and sleep deprivation are all related. I have had insomnia all my life and cannot get enough sleep.
I will look up that milk peptide.
First I want to thank you both for passing along your knowledge. My blood pressure is at normal for me now. I know it was the lactoferrin and think I understand it a little better now. I had no idea that it was not totally safe since it is an ingredient in colostrum. The research that I did turned up the 250mg amount that was used in studies that eradicated h-pylori. However, the people that were in those studies probably didn't have so much health problems as I do. I normally have the die-off of diarrhea and bloating and gas. That is what I had this time but it was enough to make my blood pressure go up. I can tell all these things are related. When I get really bad with the gas, bloating, diarrhea, etc., I can hear my heart palpitations more than usual. Now I am unsure what to try next. These things have been listed as a help to eradicate h-pylori: 1)mastic gum 2)high dose vit.A for a short time, 3)reishi extract 4)zinc carnosine 5)oil of oregano 6)aloe vera juice 7)pepto bismol caplets 8)yogurt 9)broccoli sprouts 10)colostrum 11)gamma oryzanol 12)rice bran oil. Polly said one of Sherry Rogers' books suggested pyloricidin. That contains lactoferrin, mastic gum, and garlic. So, I got the 'big'idea to try them separately in order to take enough lactoferrin. I won't do that again.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on any particular thing that will work on the h-pylori bug, I would love to hear about it. Last night at first I was thinking that I might should go ahead and take the triple theraph(2 abx and ppi). But, I remember that the reason some people don't continue with that is because it gives them diarrhea, which is sort of what I have going on. Steve, do you remember what the 'serious chronic diseases' are that have been connected with lactoferrin? I didn't know about that. Tom, how much of the lactoferrin is it in the whey isolate that stresses you out and how much seems to be ok? I know what you mean by feeling like you had been run over by a mack truck. That's the way I felt last week after my second night of only five hours sleep. I thought it was because of the lack of sleep (although I've certainly had enough of those to know what it feels like) until the next day when I had only four hours of sleep and didn't feel as bad as the night before. Then I realized it was because I had started too fast on coconut oil with one tablespoon the first day of starting back on it. Now I am going to a slow start of one teaspoon.
I understand better now after you both explained it. I may try the colostrum in a few days. It has only 14 1/2mg of lactoferrin in one pill. What do you think of that? I'll bet I had better go really slow on broccoli sprouts. I tried some broccoli and alfalfa sprouts mixed and it was messing me up with extra mucus and I am hoping it was the alfalfa since it is an allergic type plant. Does anyone have any insight on the die-off effects of any of those supplements I mentioned or a suggestion on what would be safest and most effective. I ask a lot don't I.
Thanks a lot for any and all suggestions.
My friend just told me about this sight because I have been suffering from candida. I started coconut oil a week and half ago and seem to never sleep anymore. I don't know if it is from that or something else. My coconut oil is not extra virgin. Does that make a difference? My aunt was raving about coconut oil but do you guys think it makes that big of a difference? Also, I just had the thought this morning to start taking raw apple-cider vinegar but as I read some of these posts someone said vinegar is a no-no for candida. I have always been taught otherwise. I took 1/4 cup this morning and hope I have not made it worse. Any insight?
I don't know the clinical answer but my opinion is the lactoferrin is turning up the immune system and this puts you under intense stress, we know that stress affects blood pressure. I take a product with whey isolate and contains a small amount of lactoferrin and it really stresses me out if I take too much. I usually will take it for a few days and rest from it, with me anything that kicks up my immune system makes me feel like I've been run over by a Mack truck for a couple of days.
is a globular protein with a high affinity for iron, which confers a powerful antimicrobial effect in that it binds the iron that microbes like Candida require to reproduce. When ingested lactoferrin binds available iron and starves pathogenic bacteria and yeasts of this essential nutrient.
While heavily promoted for its beneficial effects, has also been implicated in several serious chronic diseases. In my opinion there are too many question marks hanging over its head to call it a safe supplement.
Why it should cause hypertension may be down to die-off or simply to intolerances to the excess lactoferrin. If you withdraw lactoferrin and your blood pressure reverts to normal levels, you'll have at least a partial answer and know to avoid this supplement
Very good post steve. I read it after I posted to her. That was interesting about it being implicated in several things. I have googled side effects to lactoferrin and havent seen anything.
Steve, Thank you for your response. I was not expecting anyone to still be up and just now found your post at 4:30 cst. My blood pressure is down now and I want to speculate with you and anyone else about the cause after I have slept. I can't even think right now. Just know that I appreciate your response. Thank you.
