Toxic Antibiotic

I saw, on a commercial for an upcoming segment on NBC's "Today Show," that they were going to talk about an antibiotic (I guess just one) that can actually produce some toxins enough to really harm people. I don't know if they meant this drug could be fatal, or just really toxic. Of course, I missed the "Today Show," this morning (Monday the 30th), and I can't find the story anywhere....I THINK it could have been the drug "Cipro," but I am not entirely sure....it would be interesting if anyone knows what I'm talking about and can fill all of us in on this, so that we definitely won't ever take this antibiotic.


Most medicines are toxic in one way or another. The FDA balances the therapeutic benefits against the possible short and long term harmful side effects in order to decide if a drug makes it to market or not.

Legal cases against drug companies are not based on a drug's side effects, rather on the assertion that a serious side effect was known and covered up.


I was in the shower but I heard some of it. They were talking about taking antibiotics and killing off the good guys and that there is one strain of bacteria in our guts that can kill is if enough of the good guys are killed by the antibiotics. C. Diff..something. Antibiotics don't kill it along with everything else. Thats what I got from it at least.

My Doctor mentioned this one as being "a bad one!"
So,some of the med.people are becoming aware of them at long last.I think he was afraid that was the one that was giving me a bad time.


I was giving Cipro.. when it all began. I appreciate your post even if your not sure. I am scared of antibiodics .. from this day forth due to all of my problems.
