Keflex
Does anyone have experience with Keflex?I was told it works agains both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It is a cousin to penicillin.
If you had to take it, how did you get Candida flare and how did you handle that?
Thanks for any help! It's much appreciated
There is a relatively new antibiotic out for respiratory infections that supposedly does not interfere with gut flora. Ketek, it is called. I just got through taking it and it seemed not to bother me at all.
Thanks Lynn. It would be great if they finally developed a good anti-biotic without gut flora effects!
I took Keflex from 11/17/05 through 11/26/05 post wisdom tooth surgery. Problems with candida flares were noticeable within 24 hours, although I also had a rocephin IV on 11/16 during surgery.
I took 4 tabs nystatin daily, 2 qts homemade 24 hour probiotic yogurt daily, 2 spoonfulls custom probiotics daily, 4 capsules capryl daily, and a capsule of candidase daily. Still, my tongue became totally coated, and I started having dieoff including brain fog from the antifungals for the first time in a couple years. I'm therefore certain I had significant candida flares from the abx.
However, the lyme dieoff from the keflex was totally mind boggling. I didn't feel safe reducing the dose to manage the herx given the circumstances, so I had to struggle through. Days 3 through 8 were unbelievable... basically stayed in bed probably 20 to 22 hours each of those days. Amazingly though, the dieoff decreased significantly by day 9, while I was still on abx. I wonder if much of ketes were encysted, or if they were wiped out... I'd love to know. If I have another significant reaction during my next round I'll suspect the ketes merely changed to cysts. I remained on salt/c which folks believe is effective against cysts so hopefully I made permanent progress with all that suffering.
Note that my next wisdom tooth surgery is Jan 30. I will have added colloidal silver, olive leaf extract, and amphotericin B by that time. Hopefully these meds will keep the candida flares better contained. I'll let everyone know.
I'd HIGHLY recommend doing salt/c before keflex. The keflex is insanely strong and trashes the gut.
Wow! I didn't know Keflex was that strong.
Why did you need such a long course of antibiotics? Oh, now i remember, your infected wisdom teeth were infected. They must have been really bad.
You really were doing a lot to offset the abx. Why didn't you take Diflucan? Is there a drug interaction with the Keflex.
How do you tell the difference between candida dieoff and Lyme dieoff?

That is amazing. I wonder why. Maybe it was the Lyme?
I really hope you made a huge dent in the Lyme and the second round goes better for you.
Please do let us know. You also might try adding Thyme tea. It's another effective AF.
I think you've mentioned a couple of times that the Salt/C helps digestion.
Thanks for all the information. I'm glad you're feeling so much better and are able to post on the forum again. Hang in there with your next surgery and keep us posted.
Also,
I was eating at least a cup of fresh sauerkraut daily. I think this is important because I suspect the fresh cultured veggies are more likely to contain flora more likely to take up residence in the gut, whereas the probiotics in the yogurt I suspect are effective at killing bad guys but are also transient.
