Antibiiotic Question

Antibiiotic Question Years ago I had a dr. who prescribed ABX for pretty much everything from colds to laryngitis to whatever. It caused Candida. I went down that road for treatment, but never got well. If however, I truly have Lyme, why didn't those rounds and rounds of antibiotics do something for the Lyme. Did I contract the Lyme later?? Why couldn't I get well from the Candida. Perhaps something in my environment oppressed my immune system and I got Lyme later. It's so confusing.

How many times do you take an antibiotic and don't recover? Probabbly quite often. The reason for this is that certain bacteria are only sensitive to certain antibiotics.

In cases of infection, a thorough doctor would send a specimemn to the lab and ask for culture AND sensitivity. The Bacteria would be grown on a blood plate, then transferred to a row of sugars for ID and to another blood plate, where 10 or 12 small paper discs containing antibiotics would be added. Where the bacteria is sensitive to a particular antibiotic, it will not grow around that disc. Thus the lab reports the type of bacteria and the ABXs to which it is sensitive

In the case of Lyme, specific antibiotics are administered for several weeks. Short courses and wrong antibiotics will not kill the organism that causes Lyme

What multiple coiurses of antibiotics will do however is to destroy the gut's protective bacteria and allow Candida to fill the vacuum. Once present, Candida changes the millieu in the gut, preventing normal bacteria from growing back.

Wow - great question! I sure don't know the answer, but I am interested in the answer if someone does know. Never thought about it, but seems obvious now that you mention it.
