Ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, exhibited antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and non-albicans strains. At 10 mg/ml, ibuprofen showed a rapid cidal activity against exponential growth phase C. albicans, accompanied by rapid and extensive leakage of intracellular K+, permeation to propidium iodide, lysis of spheroplasts and severe membrane ultrastructural alterations. These results indicate that the killing of Candida cells is due to direct damage to the cytoplasmic membrane. At 5 mg/ml, ibuprofen inhibited growth; however, it did not kill the yeasts and did not directly affect the cytoplasmic membrane. Evaluation of yeast metabolic vitality with the fluorescent probe FUN-1 showed that growth inhibition induced by the fungistatic drug concentration was due to metabolic alterations. The combination of ibuprofen with fluconazole resulted in synergic activity with eight of the 12 Candida strains studied, including four of the five fluconazole-resistant strains. The MICs of fluconazole for the fluconazole-resistant strains decreased 2-128-fold when the drug was associated with ibuprofen. When in combination with fluconazole, MICs for ibuprofen decreased by up to 64-fold for all the 12 strains studied. These results point to the practicability of using ibuprofen, alone or in combination with azoles, in the treatment of candidosis, particularly when applied topically, taking advantage of the drug's antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Someone answered... I have been forcing myself NOT to take advil/motrin while on the diflucan...??? So, I should take it? REALLY??

Well yes really, makes you wonder about the advice to take an Aspirin every day ! Would it be working against . fungi or thinning the blood ..maybe both

Dont know about dose , i know of people who have taken a gram a day long term with no problems..The stomach lining is said to be affected with high prolonged use ..but it seems thats not a certainty.

Someone answered... I think that they are talking about advil helping as an antifungal . I dont think that it applies to aspirin as well does it?

candida I know this is frikken fascinating. I know that iu is not great on the liver or kidneys (cant remeer which one) ut lets face it, if a small amount increased the effectiveness of those drugs, it would be quite a boost.

I am also not clear on what sort of dosage would e needed.

Ibuprofen It is the kidneys. Tylenol is the one that is hard on the liver. Drinking lots of water while taking advil is recommended and also taking it on a full stomach or using something like DGL or slippery elm so the stomach does not form ulcers. For short term it is fine to use advil. Recently there have been some problems with cardiac issues taking advil and other drugs like this but I am not sure what they are or if you have to have a pre-existing condition.

Someone answered... They took several of the ibeprofin drugs off the market due to cardiac problems. They left advil so I am sure that short term it is fine esp if you are drinking lots of fluids and protecting your stomach lining. I sure know alot of people who have taken advil alot and seem to be no worse for the wear. (not advocating this of course). You could probably find out more on the connection by typing in celebrex or one of the ones that they took of the market and then adding cardiac connection.
