Help with sulfur amino acids?
Wondering if any of you can help me out here. Since contacting you several months ago I am doing much better. However, I am again facing another 'bout of candida and parasites despite all my best efforts to get rid of them. My doctor did a new toxic metal profile from Doctor's Data and my mercury and arsenic were off the scale...literally. We are thinking that was from the fish I was eating. OK, stopped eating the fish over a month ago.
My Dr. is also doing a lot of the sulfur amino acids in my IV to rebuild my immune system and heal my extensive nerve damage. (glutathione, methionine, glycine, taurine, threonine, NAC) I know these can move mercury and other metals around in the body. Also, Polly mentions in her book that different forms of candida can use them for food and/or they can encourage yeast growth.
Do any of you can experience with this? Or know of any resources that talk about it? Do the amino acids themselves serve as "food" for the yeast or is it because they move the metals around?
I haven't been feeling as well lately and seem to be going downhill again.
Cysteine is sometimes put in bread products to make the yeast more active. So cysteine directly encourages the growth of yeast. It can also suppress thyroid, if you get too much of it. I don't know if there are other reasons.
Garlic and Taheebo / Pau d'Arco will help keep the yeast out of the bloodstream. Garlic will move the mercury around and might not be tolerated. Pau d'Arco would probably be the better choice in your case. Just be aware that it has some blood thinning properties.
I think I would stop the IVs .Some people have problems with the sulfur amino acids. Some people improve but others get worse. You have to listen to your body and know what is helping you. See how you feel after stopping these IVs . Have you done anything to remove the heavy metals?
Thanks for the replies. I stopped eating the fish about 5-6 weeks ago. Maybe we could do another toxic metal profile and see if they are still circulating in my blood.
To help remove the metals, I tried 1 round of DMPS -- 1/4 of a dose and did NOT fair well. I took the Alpha Lipoic acid like Dr. Andy Cutler suggests and fiber. My yeast went so crazy I got thrush. My doctor still has me taking small amounts of Alpha Lipoic Acid and fiber to keep the metals moving. However, the nerves in my intestines are still so sensitive that taking any sulfur at all orally is almost impossible for me. I react with tremors in my hands, sometimes burning in my figertips and, of course, all kinds of not-so-pleasant intestinal pain. Our best luck has been to do it IV along with my minerals. It works great and my intestines are OK (not great) with it.
Not sure I will continue with the amino acids in my IV much longer but I depend on them to heal my nerves. Six months ago I had tremors in my hands and inside I felt like I was shaking 24 hrs a day. That is all gone now. My finger tips no longer burn or hurt when I touch things. So I know the IVs have worked to heal those things. They have also helped with my blood-brain barrier. We have cut my dose WAY back so we will see.
As for the yeast, all prescription anti-fungals do horrible terrible things to my intestines. I have to correct using diet and the few herbs I can tolerate. I remember long ago Pace saying she was once down to only a few foods she could eat -- well, I'm there. Chemical/food sensitivity is a hard one to recover from but I am determined.
Any suggestions are welcome.
I just wanted to comment on the intolerance to almost all foods. After I discovered Primal Defense by Garden of Life things changed for the better. Have you tried that product yet?
I could not tolerate the Superfood by Garden of LIfe but for some reason the Primal Defense was O.K. I started with the powder and did 1/4 recommended dose and gradually worked up to a normal dose. Gradually I was able to switch from the powder to the caplets which are more convenient. Eventually I got up to 18 caplets a day and stayed there for about a month (it's recommended three months at the therapeutic dose) I had to drop down to 12 per day and then 9 per day for the other two months because it got too expensive. I really started noticing a difference at 9 per day.
Two major things happened. 1. I could tolerate a much wider range of foods. 2. I could eat more than one food at a one sitting, i.e. protein and vegetables together. Later even some brown rice.
I hope it would help you. It's hard to keep up your nutrition with so few foods to choose from.
