Furnace Allergies
Last night after I got home my head got messed up due to the outdoors and this house so had to take an Allergra this morning. After it freezes I will see if my allergies calm down but the minute the furnace is turned on the smell about does me in. I'm going to look into getting an infrared light for the furnace. I wish I knew if it would help before spending alot of money. Do you have any idea? Many thanks.
The furnace bothers me too. I used to use an electric space heater at night. That really upped the electric bill. Our house is about 40 years old. Two years ago, we had the ducting in our house replaced. It was expensive, about $2,000. However, the house now heats up much more quickly. There is less leaking of air into the attic from the ducts. My sinuses don't feel so bad when the furnace goes on now. I also feel better psychologically just knowing that we got rid of all that asbestos that was wrapped around the old ducts. The neighbor also had this done and said that his heating bill went down significantly. I've not paid much attention to our gas bill. I just know that the heater isn't on as often.
The other thing we did recently was also very helpful. We removed all the wallpaper in one of the bathrooms. There was too much mold embedded in it. (Mold loves the glue on the wallpaper.) Then we got a large dehumidifier and put it in the bathroom. We turn it on for an hour after each shower. Not only do I feel much better, but there is a lot less work to be done when it comes to scrubbing off the mold in the shower. (My husband takes inordinately long showers.) I also have some mold inhibitor that I put on the wall and tile.
