Allergies To Drugs

Allergies to drugs I've become allergic to most pain medications. Does anyone know how to successfully reverse this allergic response? What type of dr. would I see? Does anyone know?

Thanks for any help.

Someone answered...
I had this, and it was because of lyme. Wether it was or is because of lyme in the throat, or affecting the liver, I am not sure.

It became very severe while OFF antibiotics for lyme, trying to treat the lyme in me with alternatives.

Alternatives did NOT work for me, and so had to go back on antibiotics for lyme. I reacted to the lyme antibiotics as well this time, so had to start off with 1/4 tablet a day and work up. I eventually got up to the higher dose antibiotics and did not react to them.

I also reacted to tylenol, and this was because of lyme.

IF you have lyme, treat it, I had and have to treat it with high dose antibiotics.

I work with a LLMD.

So, you're saying that Lyme can indeed cause allergies to drugs. It's really weird, I get such strange allergic reactions to various drugs: rashes, itching, jumpy legs, vomiting, nausea, and side effects like depression, dehydration, and starting to get asthma-like symptoms.

It's scary.

Someone answered... For myself that is what I find happened. I think it is the chemicals in the drugs.
Hyper response to them for myself I think, I was up at emergency twice because of this, it was a reaction to a UTI antbiotic, and after I started to react to FOOD, lets hope that you dont. I went back on lyme antibiotics and within 2 months, the eatting was about 80-90% better.
Even water, filterted water, drinking it back then my throat would just about close up, I have no idea why.

I could be wrong, but so far judging on what has happened, I think this is correct for myself.

If you have lyme treat the BASTARD, the longer you wait the harder it is to get well.

I am treating babesia now, am into my 6th week, but I am not sure how much I have improved. I just know that the herxing from these antibiotics and antmalarials have been THE worst herxing I have EVER so far endured. It has been a horrifying nightmare, and have heard from a couple people that see the same LLMD as mysefl that treating babesia is a bitch, now I know what they meant and mean.

HORRIFYING! nothing but this.
I seriously thought I would die from this healing of babesia, clindamycinn and quinine,
I am now on another combo, but dont think it is going as well.

Someone answered... That is intense. i am not sure if lyme causes it directly or the iotoxins are so hard on the liver/kidneys, the later dont function adequately.

what treatment strategy are you on for lyme? have you always had this drug allergy prolem or is this recent?

have you tried small doses of lipo or nasal gsh? i am right now doing a lot of liver stuff: daily enemas, sam-e, lipo-gsh, taurine, milk thistle and am prepping for a flush.

i am pretty sure that after 8 months of c-salt, my liver is a little shot and i am trying to give it a boost efore going strong again on c-salt.

we will see how it goes. i know if nothing else my wallet is way thinner :-(

Someone answered... I never had allergies before getting sick with what I at first thought was candida. When I had adequate treatment for Candida, the symptoms went away however, the symptoms returned when I stopped the Candida treatment.

Even though I have a positive test for Lyme, I wonder if I actually have it. Perhaps it is suppressing my immune system which in turn allows the Candida to grow. Metals??? may be another factor.

All I know is my allergies to script drugs and environmental things are much worse than ever before.

I hear you about your wallet being thinner!
I'm not on gsh. I'd be careful with continuing daily enemas--probably O.K. short term, but wonder about doing them long term.

Sorry the new combo abx aren't working as well. Have the bugs become resistant? Currently I'm not on abx for Lyme. Dr. says he needs to build up my health first.

So much to think about

Someone answered... Lyme has been very serious for myself, and for some others. Why some can get well on alternatives, and others NEED high dose oral antibiotics, or IV antibiotics, I dont know, it has been said there are some violent strains of lyme out there.

If I were you I would do SOMETHING to treat the lyme, either alternatives or antibiotics OR Rife.

For myself, I had done cleansing of the intestines, and oddles of candida treatment, liver cleansing, juicing, counselling, had the mercury out, had the root canal out, did get somewhat better treating the candida but then I started to go downhill.

I did have severe stress, but I also was intolerant to stress from lyme disease, because once treating lyme with antibiotics, I was able to handle stress better, but I still need to get out on my own, and live alone, this I feel may help me much better, as well, maybe not, I have learned to respond to stress better when in it, this has been a key point to helping myself stay well when in stressful situations.

A positive lyme test, I would treat the lyme, anyways, just start treating it and see how you do.

If you have mercury, why not get one filling out at a time AFTER you have been on lyme treatment for awhile, because if you are reacting to all the drugs, you may react to the mercury... try to see if you become better on lyme treatment, if your allergies get better.

MINE are getting better.

For some, once they start treating lyme everything or most things get better. Others, not.

Someone answered... So much is unknown. Even the way individuals react to the same medications is different.

Yes, you are right. I'm a little perplexed why my LLMD isn't treating me outright--but he firmly believes some patients must be built up first. Yet, on the other hand each day that goes by is a ticking timebomb.

It's hard to get out of the Candida treatment mode: NO ANTIBIOTICS UNLESS YOU'RE ON YOUR DEATHBED philosophy.

My amalgams are out. I am a poor excreter of mercury. I would need to start chelation. Not sure which to do first: Lyme or Chelation of heavy metals. Wonder if it can be done concurrently.

I'm really, really glad some are better. Didn't you get some new ones or was that someone else. I remember something about electromagnetic allergies>>For some, once they start treating lyme everything or most things get better. Others, not.

Jeannie - Interesting. What reaction did Tylenol give you?

Someone answered... It gave me pain, asthma, and sometimes a foggy head, as well as a flu type feeling sometimes.

ALSO, when lyme was at its worst, any kind of alcohol made me violently ill.

Someone answered... I, too, get a bad reaction to Tylenol, digestion / tongue / throat problems much worse. No doc had been able to explain why. If there's a Lyme connection, that's very interesting.

Someone answered... I'm in the same boat. I look forward to what others have to say.

Someone answered...
I hope someone has some ideas on what to do. I asked my mainstream dr. (he's quite concerned about all the allergies) about the liver and liverpathways. He said Ibuprofen is broken down and excreted by the kidneys. Other drugs like percocet and tylenol are broken down and excreted by the liver. He seemed to think the route to go would be to see an allergist and get a determination of the most severe drug reactions to the least severe reaction through allergy testing.

I beginning to wonder if I also have a latex allergy. Band-aids, etc. cause skin reactions. I've read that for some who have a mild skin reaction can they can suddenly and without warning have a severe anaphylactic reaction. You'd be surprised where latex exists besides in a medical setting. Latex is in pencil erasers, soft pen grips, soft buttons on the remote, balloons, elastic in socks, shoes, and many other places.

I wonder if Lyme makes people allergic to drugs?

Well, let's hope someone here knows something about reversing drug allergies.

Someone answered...
I too am totally unable to tolerate ANY drugs - even childrens doses.

I thought this was a liver issue but not sure. I am taking herbal/nutritional supplements to try to help.

Someone answered...
This is more than a frustrating problem. It is downright dangerous. I think it is wise to get a medic ID bracelet to notify drs. in the event we are unable to speak and can't tell what drugs we are allergic to. In a severe allergic we could go into anaphylactic shock.

I never had these problems before the candida issues. My guess is you have the same experience.

Someone answered...
I'm the same - it is very frightening. I plan on trying to desensitize with something like hypnosis, tat, or tbm when I'm a little stronger, if I can get my liver in better shape. It does work for some people.

Someone answered...
I've tried various desensitizing antigens, but it didn't really work in the long term. It worked during the moment. Primal Defense did help although I do not know why. I wonder if there is a breach in the lining of my intesting (different than leaky gut), more like a section that is damaged. I also wonder why the benefit of Primal Defense didn't last )it lasted as long as I was taking 18 per day and for several months when I took 9 per day. It's awful, awful expensive. I/all of us need something more permanent.
